10-Gustavo Ayon : New Orleans Hornets
I was so ready to add Enes Kanter to the Ladder this week, if only to silence the vocal Jazz faithful. ("If he got more minutes, this guy would be a star!!" or "Look at his per-48 stats!!") But the real big man deserving of the spot is Ayon, who averaged 12 points and 9.0 rebounds in the last two games. And, unlike Kanter, Ayon actually blocks shots. He has at least one in the last four games while Kanter doesn't have one for the whole month of March (can Jazz fans explain that from their big man?) I'm not saying Ayon will have the better career or is even the more skilled player, but he's producing at a higher clip, and gets the rung for now.

But he's averaging 12 & 9 for the past two games, plus he got a block four games ago.
 
Blocked shots are what players get when they are beaten to the hoop by the offensive player. A good defender doesn't block a lot of shots, because they are already in position to change the shot with defensive presence.

As for teams stealing away our rookies, yeah, it might happen, but if other teams overpay for our players, then they will have salary cap issues in the years to come and we trade our cap space for their draft picks, and the cycle continues. Just look at Wesley Matthews. The Blazers overpaid for him (yes, they did) and this year he's trending downward at only 41% from the field and down from almost 16 ppg to only 12.5 while being paid like a solid contributor. So we either keep our rookies at a reasonable price, or other teams steal them for more and are weakened in the process. It all balances out which is why the Jazz have been in the playoffs in Utah 80%ish of the time, regardless of who steals our rookies.

Ayon has had a better rookie year than Kanter. Not surprising, he is 26 years old. Does he have a better future? Probably not. The list isn't "Who will be the best players from the rookie class 3 years from now" it's about who is better now.

False. Most blocks come against wing penetration and from weakside help against opposing bigs, not in man defense situations. Protecting the rim still counts for an awful lot.

ok,fair enough,now tell me what he does better than kanter? enes is better defender than him,he has better stats than him in equal minutes.

Wow. I've never seen someone who seems to understand this. One reason Andrei got so many blocks was partially because he got burned on the perimeter so often. However, we assume that since he was blocking shots he must be an intimidating defender and neglect all the other possessions he got scored on because his man burned past him to the basket.
