Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

There’s some guy on twitter who’s a senior NBA analyst that’s been on this PG to Utah thing for a few months now. It won’t happen, I’m just not sure where he’s getting that idea.
What’s his name.

It’s literally the perfect basketball situation for Paul George. Play agreesive as hell perimeter D with Rudy is the paint. You never have to dribble around and into the lane, let Mitchell do that. You just set good screens, and play within a very smart offense. Shoot open spot up threes all game being the second option to Mitchell.

If he cared about the perfect basketball situation it’d be hard to find a better one, maybe Philly but Simmons and Embiid are both big usage rate guys, and we have usage rate to spare. #1 option with the Lakers? Not really his best role.

Not gonna happen though.

Getting PG13 would put us in championship contention. There's 0 doubt in my mind if he came here

Paul George, if he’s really committed to a legacy and winning, could sign up to be for the Jazz what Igoudala was for the Warriors. A do it all, two way, glue guy vet with play off experience, taking a secondary role compared to what he’s used to.

If he just wants to get paid, he goes to LA or stays in OKC.

I’ll believe it when I see it... pretty tough to do unless he opts in (passing up a long term deal) and forces his way here... passing up the hometown lakers and a chance to move back to beat up on the JV league in Philly.

Pie in the sky trade targets:

Tobias Harris
Niko Mirotic - I’ll never give up
Aaron Gordon

Realistic targets on one year deals with option on second year at the MLE:

Bjelica
Mbah a Moute
Fred VanVleet

Strange trade targets that I like:

Garrett temple - overpaid on a one year deal but we might get a good second rounder if the Kings want to dump him.

Tomas Satoransky- really like him and think he fits so well with what we do. Can play/guard 1-3 (maybe not the bigger 3s). Just think he’d be used so much smarter here.

One more I’d consider - Wes Matthews... say they want to clear a little more space we can send AB and one of the unguaranteeds for him... only has one more year and is more using up than AB to this team.

Random thought I’ve been kicking around my head... I wonder if Hood has figured out how freaking good he had it here... his value has gone down the toilet. Wonder if the sides would get together and figure out a deal... Rod on a MLE type deal may not be a bad thing... also less pressure now... hmmmmm.

Should go somewhere like Phoenix.

DL said “rod is a part of the jazz family and we wouldn’t mind if it came full circle” then said he didn’t want to say anymore because he didn’t want to tamper..... hmmmmmm.

Gah, I completely forgot about Tobias Harris, he might be #1 or #1a with Kevin Love. He’s not going anywhere this year short of a Kawhi trade though

Trade:

Exum, Burks, picks for Tobias Harris and Patrick Beverley.

Really need to sell Balmer on Australian Kobe.

Lebron James

Why not? Dude wants to win right? We have DWade 2.0 with a jumper. Plus Gobert. Just do the standard 2 year deal with PO on the 2nd year.

Its a ready made team. We would be a legit contender. He doesnt want to waste his last few years in Cleveland does he?

Maybe if the Jazz make it to the Finals and lose.

I really hope Favors returns, and I think it's probably about a 50/50 chance at this point. However, for the sake of fun with speculation, in the following I'm going to make the assumption he's not.

A few ideas (second two are super reachy, reckless speculation):

Jabari Parker - I'm definitely unsure on this one, but I still think he might have a lot of upside. The Bucks have suffered some pretty awful coaching, and I can't help but think he could be helped considerably by having Quin. As for acquiring him, I think the only avenue I find worth considering is some kind of a sign and trade deal. I don't even know if this is possible, but I could see some kind of double S&T based around Jabari and Faves. The Jazz would likely have to add some extras, but I could see their salaries winding up close enough to provide a basic framework.

Tobias Harris - I don't have any particular reason to think The Clippers actually have any interest in trading him, but I am imagining a hypothetical scenario where they might: The Clips have two late lottery picks, where there could be a possiblity of picking up Miles Bridges. If the Clippers fall in love with Bridges, I can see them deciding to sell on Tobias. Alternatively...

Miles Bridges - This is basically an exact inverse of the above scenario. I believe the Clippers have picks 13 and 14. Perhaps they decide that Miles Bridges is, at that point in the draft, the BPA by a significant margin. At the same time, maybe they like Tobias, and convince themselves there's too much overlap between the two and their expected roles. In this situation, maybe they decide they can extract the most value by trading down in the draft and picking up additional assets, rather than drafting a player they view as a lower value pick, but better fit. Not really sure what the Jazz offer along with 21, though. All of this assumes that Miles Bridges drops that far, of course.
