Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

I’m hesitant on Parker because I’ve been reading some of the Bucks boards and most of the fans seem to think he has a bad attitude/work ethic. He seems like a diva that can’t back the attitude with his play. They also think he’s kind of a black hole. It really seems like all he can do is score.

If the jazz go after him, I hope it’s on a cheap contract with a team option.

I catch a dozen or so Net games a year and I like Joe Harris; but the one constant is the moment he checks into a game, opposing teams start running their offense right at him.

I don't know if he's a Quin guy. He's more like a Rodney Hood re-tread without the ability to shoot over people like Rodney could at the 2.

Paul George would be perfect on this team but not happening after what our fans did to him.

I’ve thought that Klay Thompson would be the absolute perfect fit on our team. So whoever is closest to him who we are able to get. I’ll leave that part to DL.
The Pushoff P chant?

I'm curious to know why guys like Beasley or Hezonja and no Parker

Beasley is a no-go on our squad. Not a great personality fit... he isn't a bad person, but I don't see it working.

I like Mario... there are conflicting reports on how hard of a worker he is, but I think he has enough potential to be interesting... would be a good gamble.

Bradley has a rumored abuse stuff that he paid some hush money to make go away. It wasn't very publicized, but I'm sure the Jazz will stay away. He's fine as a player, but I think he got the Boston bump in perceived value.

I like Wayne Ellington on a one year deal with a second year team option.

I think Tobias could be had mid season next year. If the Clips are looking bad/mediocre they may not be willing to pay Tobias to stay and might trade him for a 2019 first round pick. Better than losing him for nothing. I'm guessing they have bigger plans for 2019 FA but may just decide to truly blow it up. I don't think he can be had for what I'd be willing to pay right now.

Agree with Beasley. Mario? not a big fan. He always had the tools but he seems like a low IQ player. Work ethic could be an issue as you mentioned. Perhaps a very cheap deal with team options. I like Ellington as he would provide much needed shooting from the bench (although I don't see him leaving Miami unless we vastly overpay)

I really think there is the possibility of a Rodney Hood reunion this summer. I think after the season he's had and the issues he has with anxiety that he might be more willing to fulfill the role we have for him. I don't know that anyone is offering the full MLE for him unless they feel they can get some semblance of the Utah Rodney Hood. Even if he was in and out of the lineup when he gets dinged up we could use his scoring off the bench. When he gets hot we win. It didn't work at the beginning of the season because he was clearly trying too hard to be the go to guy and didn't respond well to the contract pressure.

Now that we have a consistent DM to provide 20-25 points every night having a guy that goes nuclear some nights is a huge boost and wins you games. I'm all for the Rodney Hood reunion for the full MLE... tell him to win the 6th man of the year award and welcome him back. I think DL hoodwinked Cleveland.

With Mario it is all about price. Orlando is a **** show and has misused and not developed guys... they seemingly have no plan. I have heard he's a hard worker... I have seen the low BBIQ as well. The non-worker stuff was early in his career and I think he got more serious as he realized he needed to earn PT.

I think he could be used as a small ball four at times and in a system that moves the ball he could do better with automatic reads and such. I think a smart coaching staff could use him and was encouraged with how he looked at times in Orlando. I just think if you can get a big wing that can shoot on a team friendly deal the contract has a high floor... he still has some potential so it could end up being a bargain. Like if it was a 4/20 with a team option it could be a home run... his market may be stronger than that.

On Ellington... they are hamstrung and he is older a 1 + 1 at the MLE may get it done. I think they are limited in what they can offer him. I'd be hesitant to go more than that since he's a little older.

Ellington doesn't play the 3 - he's almost strictly a 2. He's not going to come to Utah to play behind Mitchell.

And I doubt they'd combo him with Mitchell as PG - right now they're playing Mitchell at PG out of necessity because Exum is not ready for prime time.

This is a really good point. I think anyone we add needs to have some positional flexibility.

If Favs walks I like the idea of Harrell if we can get him on a good deal... LAC may match anything that I'd consider "good".

I think I'd make a call to Mario... They can't offer anything over $5.1M because they declined his option. Doing a 3/16M deal with a team option on the final year may get it done. Can start the salary at $5.8 or so and decline it.

They guys that Mario shared the floor with most this year - DJ Augustin, Shelvin Mack, Vucevic, Biyombo. He wasn't on the floor with Orlando's best players much and Orlando's roster is awful. He may thrive in a functional environment.

With Sef coming back next year, It seems like we would have too much overlap signing a 2/3. It seems more important to either get a 4 that can shoot, or to re-sign Favors.

I'm not sure he is though. He also is good at the 4. I could see us letting Favs walk and covering the 4 with Thabo, Jae, Royce, and a cheaper true PF. Maybe keep Jerebko.

I think Royce is big enough to play some 4 and would allow us to switch 1-4 with no problem. He rebounds very well.

My concern is Thabo looked a step slow before the injury. Add the injury and another year and he may just be washed. Thabo was still a disruptive defender, but got beat off the dribble more frequently than I expected.

Like HH also mentioned, I think Thabo is best suited as a 4 if he returns (there is still a chance we don't pick up his option or we trade him as a valuable non-guaranteed contract).

Whether it's 1, 2, 3 or 4, we need more shooting and scoring.

Agree on Thabo and Crowder, but Royce won't really help us much at the 4 even if he rebounds well. Spot minutes at best.

If we want to keep defenses from dropping their 4 into the lane to double Mitchell for the foreseeable future, we have got to locate a big that can shoot. I'm still hopeful the Jazz can pry Mirotic away.
