Trade Favors Before Long

we've been shopping Dfav for like the last 3 years

Apparently everyone wants him for a only a 2nd round pick so we've kept him - he's a high character guy, kept a good attitude throughout, can u imagine trading him for a nigel williams goss or a bolomboy? Glad we've held on to DFAV

There have been trade rumors about him but I dont think the team has shopped him. They probably have listened to trade offers other team are making but they do that for all their players and the Jazz have obviously said no. He has not been on the trading block though.

Favors shooting long 2s is exactly what most teams want. That's simply a terrible option.

Why? If it spaces the floor and he is getting good percentages that is a good thing. It can be a bad shot but only if players dont shoot it well. If he keeps shooting those shots at 50% which is what he is shooting so far this season that would be incredible and an efficient shot. So far this season:

His TS% is .571 which is the best of his career

Less Than 5 ft. 83.3%
5-9 ft. 25.0%
10-14 ft. 25.0%
15-19 ft. 50.0%
20-24 ft. 50.0%
25-29 ft. 0%

So those 15-24 foot shots have been solid for him. Maybe he doesnt keep it up but so far it is promising. I hope he starts to hit some threes as well but its not needed to space the floor or for him to be efficient.

Once upon a time the Jazz had a player named Jeff Malone who they valued so much they traded him. If the Jazz can find a better fit, they need to trade Favs. Udoh has taken away Favs' role as a backup 5. Favs simply doesn't fit next to Gobert. And he'll be too expensive to keep. Jazz can't pay everyone. Just add up the salaries for next season and put in even conservative numbers for Hood, Exum and Favors. That puts the Jazz significantly into the luxury tax. I'd rather see Utah offload Favs and try to keep Joe Johnson.

Meh, missing the point. This discussion is about Favors and his impact on spacing.

Nobody is saying we should try to win games by having Favors shoot long 2s. However, in terms of spacing, all he has to do is be consistent enough that he has to be defended. The point is that the spacing issue isn't night and day just because he isn't shooting 3s.

When Favors steps out 18 - 20 feet, is his defender following him, or just staying back to clog the paint? Spacing isn't about where Favors stands, it's about whether he's a good enough shooter to draw his defender away from Rudy.

Which is what I've been saying. If he can hit those long 2s consistently, the difference in shooting the 3 is negligible in terms of spacing.

If Favors goes elsewhere, we could re-sign Trevor Booker. I think he'll be a free agent after this season.

You definitely keep this on the table, but it would be wise for every reason to be patient and to not do it just to do it. He could be worth keeping, after all (his bird rights being the biggest reason a team would trade for him).

But point blank, until the Jazz have a long-term answer at the 4, jettisoning Favors really doesn't make a lot of sense.

Ehh. Long 2s aren't worth guarding specifically because they're 2s. When converting a bucket yields 50% more points (like a 3 does), it makes guarding that shot more important in addition to the additional court space.

Favors will have to shoot damn-near 50% on those spot-up 2s in order to provide spacing, otherwise, those shots may just be decent release-valves in the offense and not really a matter of spacing (which obviously still means something).
