Trade Favors Before Long

I don't question his effort... he's different than Rudy, but he gave us heart and guts last year in the playoffs.

I think he looks a lot lighter and that will help with the other stuff. I'm hopeful he will stay healthy and I don't know that there is a $20M/year offer out there for him even if he does. Maybe he comes back at a similar number next year... I'll worry about that later and just enjoy what he is doing.

He did play well in the playoffs. And he does look to finally be in real shape which should help. And he has never caused any kind of distraction; he's just a chill dude who is now a family man. Maybe it's just taken him a while to blossom into a mature pro a la Joe Jesus. Speaking of which, I wonder who/what has been behind Derrick's new level of fitness.

That is not a voice of reason. A long 2 isnt anywhere close to a 3 in terms of spacing. Teams want you to shoot long 2's.

IAWTP.

2-3 feet of difference is huge as far as spacing goes. It's why they often say point guards may have an easier in time with penetration at the NBA level than in college.

It's not even that. No one is scrambling to contest that 20 foot jump shot (unless maybe they are on fire). It has nothing to do with length from the court. You could be shooting a 30 foot shot that counted 2 points, ain't no one going to be guarding you.

My point was more that it's simply a lot tougher for a defender to defend Favors at 21 feet AND try to come back to the lane or rim and help out than it is at 18 feet. But you're right too.

Nah. I'm all for trading guys who seem to be leaving for nothing. Especially guys I feel don't fit next to our more important players.

This whole thread is about the long haul not right now. I'm interested to see how the next 6 weeks go. I did jump the gun a little on the timing. Mainly joking on injury prone players...

News flash he IS one of our more important players. Also him and Rudy on the floor are showing pretty good chemistry, and the worry about spacing is being waaaaaay over blown.

But no one is guarding him at 20 feet.

The value of spot-up mid-range shot isnt spacing, it's more of a release valve to get a decent look.

Like if Rubio drives the paint and he cant find Gobert rolling or anyone in the corners, he probably knows he has Favors just above the FT arc. Unless he has nailed 3 in a row or something, the defense is probably living with that shot.

What are the chances that Derrick Favors re-signs with the Jazz in free agency? Another team will offer him more money and probably more touches.

Jazz can offer him more money. Favor's values consistency with his team. Favor's also wants to play pf not center. How many teams are looking for a PF entering his prime that have cap room? There might be a couple but not many if any. Holding his bird rights will go a long ways. If Jazz aren't interested in signing him again I guess they should take him at the deadline. If they want to keep him, I think they can.

I vomit in my mouth at the idea of giving Favors more because we "can offer him more money." Are you saying we should consider giving him a max?

Lets just see the next 6 weeks play out. I hope he continues to play well and stay healthy.

Can we also just see how the next 6 weeks go before we make any more stupid Trade Favors threads?

No, I don't think he should or will get the max. I am saying we can offer more than other teams. I am also saying we are the only team that can go over our salary cap to sign him.

Who do you think will go after him in FA with room?

I gotta say I might be Favors least big fan. He doesn't fit next to Gobert offensively. Defensively it's really solid. I'd trade him for Bledsoe even.
