Tre Johnson Will Likely be The 5th Pick

My general feeling right now:

Ace - Has the best tools, also has the worst game RN. If you see him as a ball of clay, he's a fantastic prospect. If he's not willing/capable of learning, not great.

VJ - Love the archetype, skill level leaves a lot to be desired, might just be A- athlete instead of A+. Think he will be a good player you want on your team in all outcomes.

Tre - One of the best shooting prospects I can remember, very concerned about his defense, potential lies in ability to attack the rim. I'm skeptical on that last part, but I'm often very wrong.

I have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that there is something off with Ace. I cant point my finger on one thing and prove my point with solid arguments... but my gut says he is 2025 drafts overadvertized promiseware.

Call me idiot all you want... but Id rather have Tre or VJ.
I’m think he might be the Jonathan Kuminga/Jalen Green “If This Guy Puts it All Together Watch Out” Award winner this year.

I see what his believers see in him I am just doubtful it comes together.

What about Kuminga and Green do you think is holding them back? It it just the BBIQ? I feel like they're lacking in some skill development, but I think both have awesome talent. I used to joke that Cade was seen as Luka until the season started and he actually had to play basketball, but he did actually put it all together. Don't know if there's a real trend or model to be followed, but I do think Cade has always been a more intelligent player than the other two.

Yeah I also cant point my finger on one thing... but its just anywhere I look there is something off.
- dribbling
- passing
- shot selection
- general efficiency / consistency
- perimeter shooting
- rim finishing
- rebounding
- on-ball defense
- off-ball defensive awareness
- effort / motor
- team success
- interviews
- combine numbers

I cannot hang my hat on any one of those things with him. I left out midrange shooting since that is actually a thing I could hang my hat on with him. But thats the tool of the 90s, which SGA, Demar Derozan and select few others are keeping alive but with this age of analytics everyone else just keeps hunting for 3s or dunks.

Nah you’re not alone.

Many of us felt this 2-3 days ago too.

That’s why Tony Jones had said Ace will be available at #5.

I also read some other Athletic reporter saying that he has sensed that NBA execs like VJ better than Ace.

If Ace is available at 5 though, Zanik will sprint to the podium faster than he did with Cody. There is no way DA passes on Ace, ever.

Yes but at this point he’s the last on my list.

For me personally I just don't see enough aggressiveness, assertiveness or fight in him compared to VJ and Tre.

I dont think he’ll be as bad as Cody but I’m just not sold.

Did you see this clip of him and Harper working out with Giannis? Compared to Harper he seemed “slow” and just not as assertive as Harper.

I just don't see much “fire” in him as I would have liked.

He is saying all the wrong things with the wrong attitude. I could see him fall out of the top-5.

Kuminga shooting and playing with others. I think if I was betting on one to really figure it out it would be him. The GS system is hard. I don't think he has the feel but if there was a sign and trade option where we send Collins for JK and let him explore the space I could get on board. 4/80-100M is the range I am cool with. Would love a team option on the final year. We probably need to start making bets.

Green its feel and just the shot not as good as it needs to be. I would also see how he looks without a post player and with some shooting. I do wonder if there is some stuff to unlock there.

They both just remind me of AAU cone drill kids. Looks at this cool **** we can do... then they go on the court with the old guys and lose 5 straight games.

100% on this and taking bets. Kid is still 22 and has immense tools.

This is the kind of swing we need to take in this part of our build.

Could part of kuminga issue simply be that he went to a win now team and didn't get the role, leash, minutes to play though mistakes and make people think he is an up and coming star?

Especially once we are whiffing.

Kuminga separately I think there is a deal.

The other guys in a potential Lauri deal that may be worth the bet are Jaden Ivey and Jalen Green. Like they can't be the reason for the deal but I could see them taking a step and making the deal look good/better.
