Trey Lyles: The Resurrection

So you went from didn't think he could play to being best stretch 4 ever.lmao.lol.lmao.lol.talk about some homerism.making a declaration like that after a few games before anyone has game film on him.#0BBallIQ

The problem is that last season could be the exception.

iirc in college he shot like 14% or something from three. He might be the guy I wanted least of any pick in the jazz range in jazz history. I hated the pick so bad (I wanted oubre and didn't want booker for some stupid reason. Also loved frank the tank and myles turner) and then he started his rookie year not scoring in something like the first 8 games or so (I could be way off but I think it was something like that. Not a huge amount of shots either but double digit attempts iirc). Then he ended up playing quite well most of the year and I ate all teh crow and started thinking he could be the best stretch 4 ever.

I don't know what to think about this dude. He is so young and promising but if he isn't a great 3 point shooter then I think he has almost no value.

Yeah he got trade value still because he on rook contract but not the value jazz fans think. No one is Going give a top 25 pick in this draft for him.#Fact

QUOTE=Jazz4ever;1421641]I'd like to believe it was all mental last season on his shot. He shot 38% on 128 attempts his rookie year - that's a pretty good sample size.
He has some trade value because of that stat.[/QUOTE]

Indeed there is a mountain between having a potential and to fulfill it...

I never saw what the Jazz saw in him and I still don't. I think his good play was the fluke. He does not seem invested in being an NBA player. I just don't see any fire or passion or effort really, not to mention the fact that he is always 2 steps slow and has mediocre skills. I wonder if DL is his illegitimate father or something.

Honestly if he doesn't learn to play defense or rebound he won't play. I too have high hopes. But the kid needs to go back to school and learn fundamental basketball.

I want to believe in him too.

This off season will determine his make up. Is he going to accept his 2016/17 performance or is he going to make the investment in energy, dedication, effort and time to improve.

We will see.

Put him in a package with Burks and send him to Denver for the Manimal Kenneth Faried.

I'll bet you they'd do that. They've been trying to trade him for a couple years.

I'm so out on Lyles. His attitude (checked out) and flaws (defense, rebounding, shot making) just far outweigh his potential imo. It's not just his contract but you have to figure in you can't give a lot of roster spots to players who aren't productive as they develop. I'd rather throw my eggs into the Kuzma, Lydon, Semi, Wilson basket if we are going to sacrifice on court play for development.

I still have a lot of faith in Trey. Kid is insanely talented and there was a logjam at the 4 spot this season when Favors was healthy. He'll be fine.

Is that really your idea of insane talent?

Wow.

I have a hard time believing Trey's character. Not in an off the floor sense, but moreso "I'm going to do whatever it takes".

He played very selfishly all year. Whenever he got out there he was more concerned with what he was doing then what the team was doing. Opportunity was served on a silver platter for him, but he squandered it and became one of the worst players in the entire league. He was barely average in a few areas, and terrible everywhere else.

Trey's got to get it out of his head that he's going to be a star. It's not impossible for him to be the player that he wants to be, but he needs to be the player the team needs first. He doesn't have the baseline ability to be an NBA player right now.
