Elon Musk and his DOGE team have been granted access to the US Treasury Department's payment system, according to a report in the New York Times. The move follows a standoff between Musk's team and a top Treasury official, David Lebryk, who refused to grant access to the department's payment system. The official was reportedly put on leave and then retired after the dispute.

US Senator Ron Wyden (Democrat) confirmed the news in a post on Bluesky, stating“Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it,”

Musk's allies, who were given access to the Treasury's payment system, were reportedly made employees of the department, underwent government vetting and received security clearances.

I don’t want USPS to be privatized. But it would be ironic if it were. Guess who would pay through their noses? Ruralists. It costs more to run mail service to places out in the middle of nowhere. Cities subsidize ruralists (as usual) and sadly these morons vote against their own interests (as usual).
 
People had four years of this lead by tweet leadership. And last November they said, “Hell yes. Gimmie four more!”

Admit it, if this were a family member you’d be seeking medical care for them. But because he’s the cult leader of the GOP? We’re all just gonna look the other way.

How do we know that Musk isn’t sharing this data with fellow oligarchs? How do we know he isn’t selling this data to foreign business interests? What safeguards do we have that Musk isn’t going to take advantage of this data to enrich himself and his buddies? What recourse do we have if he does something unethical or illegal with this data? What options do we have if he cuts payments to people or limits services?

Where’s our very principled conservatives who value privacy and small government when you need them?

Magats refuse to admit that there is way more fentanyl coming to Canada from US than vice versa. So who's border needs fixing?
 
I am glad Canada is not bending to orange clown circus. Most of stores here all promote buy Canadian or Mexican ( as I am as well as private business owner buy switching to local or other non american products in my business) , bunch of provinces already ordering to remove all american liquor from stores and so on. Trump wanted fight, he will get one.

Many places would just lose mail service.

I live in the Salt Lake Valley so most of my amazon deliveries are done by Amazon but I imagine most rural Amazon deliveries are done by the USPS.

When Trump said, “I will be your retribution”, I never said “can you believe Trump would do that to American citizens? So, yeah, no problem seeing him do things he said he would do. WASHINGTON — Federal agencies on Friday rushed to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders aimed at curtailing diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

The executive orders prompted a flurry of memos and emails obtained by NBC News that modified the rules for staff at intelligence agencies, in the military and across civilian departments regarding employee resource groups and the celebration of cultural awareness events.

This week, the Defense Intelligence Agency ordered a pause of all activities and events related to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Black History Month, Juneteenth, LGBTQ Pride Month, Holocaust Remembrance Day and other "special observances" to comply with President Donald Trump's executive order, according to a memo obtained by NBC News.

The memo listed 11 observances that are now banned. It also said that all affinity groups and "employee networking groups" are immediately on pause.

The directive comes as the Trump administration has made it a top priority to go after any programs perceived to be related to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the federal government.

Releasing farmer's water stores ... 250 miles away from LA on the other side of a mountain range that requires water to pumped over the mountains... represents nothing other than removing the water from farmers. CA is 750 miles from the wetlands up north the drylands down south. This isn't some little state where doing something a few towns over crosses half the state. When food prices go up because farms go dry, remember this photo-op.

@Bucknutz you've been concerned no one can give Trump any credit. Will you criticize him for fiascos like this? Can you see how this is nothing but destructive and divisive and dangerous and vindictive? Or do you defend this kind of action? What exactly does he deserve any credit for when he has already in 2 short weeks engaged in such destructive and damaging behavior as we have literally never before seen from a newly elected president. How is this kind of **** defended? Will you defend it or will you openly admit this was a stupid and destructive move aimed at hurting people through his vindictiveness?

First, that dude is nothing but a troll, so you're better off ignoring him and leaving him alone. Hopefully he'll go away. But the bigger picture is that that is exactly how the Trump cult followers act. They move the goal post constantly, pretty much daily, going to become hourly soon. That's the only way they can operate in a world with that much cognitive dissonance.
 
Here is some food for the trolls, but Trump is just about the very first president we have had whose assassination would greatly benefit the country. Vance wouldn't garner the cult following Trump has. Some of the more center-leaning Republicans who toe the party line because of fear of retribution would be freed to vote for what's best for the country instead of just kissing orange hod-king's anus. It would dramatically change the political outlook in the country, and almost certainly only for the better. Crazy to think we actually have a president that makes this a fact. His assassination would only make things better for ordinary people.
