Trump Dictatorship and All Things Politics

That is a problem, I think we've lost sight of what it means to be a moderate, or rather we each have our own idea of what a moderate is and that tends to shoehorn people automatically into the other camp. Take Buck calling me a leftist. I'm all for the 2nd amendment and I own and really enjoy my guns, but I also think we need some common sense gun laws to try to at least chip away at the rampant shootings occurring in our country at rates literally orders of magnitude higher than any other developed nation, but I think we also need to find ways to address mental health issues in conjunction with these gun laws so people who are unstable can't get guns as easily. So which camp am I in? Remember, I by our modem definition MUST be shoehorned in one camp. So am I a right wing gun nut because I own, shoot and really enjoy my guns and don't want to give them up? Am I an irrational leftist who hates the Constitution because I feel we need a few restrictions on gun ownership? We've entirely lost the ability to have any level of nuance in opinion in this country. It was already happening way back in the 90's. We saw it exemplified in the Iraq war when Democrats voted to go to war then immediately backpedaled when they saw this was unpopular instead of sticking to their guns and owning an actually decision. And again when Obama killed Romney because he 1) said "binders full of women" and 2) was one of the few politicians who was capable of changing his mind (on abortion no less) but wasn't allowed to do that since he was then a "flip-flopper" when really that is the kind of politician we should want, one who has the convictions and intelligence to get new information, incorporate it into his world view, and make a reasoned decision to change his mind accordingly. But no, we must all be automatons with no ability to think beyond the party line, which lead us inexorably to the final evolution of this kind of no-quarter-given politics in a race to fascism on one side and an inability to put together 2 ideas to figure out how to stop the fascist on the other and no one is allowed to occupy any middle ground. But this is the inevitable position of a pure 2-party system. We won't survive this long-term if this model of political system isn't upended with a viable third party.
I think Romney would have been a better president than 2nd term Obama. I also voted for McCain the first time around and stand by that. I really have a special place in my heart for McCain.

But yeah, I'm a radical leftist, or so I've been told.

EDIT to add: I think Obama was a semi-decent President. I only came to that conclusion after Trump got elected in 2016, so take it for what it's worth.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm coming at this from a leftist perspective, so take it for what it's worth I guess. But I think the thing that's truly missing in this country is an honest to god pro-labor party.

Those of us who are earning a paycheck have an incredible amount of untapped power, and plenty in common (like you I'm a gun owner who believes our current gun laws fall somewhere short of sane). But there's no structure in place to harness it. It's a real shame too, because class consciousness is something that should cut through all the concern about DEI or wokeness or whatever, while still advancing the interests of marginalized groups.

Again, the democrats should be positioned to be the party for the working joe. They had a chance in the wake of the 08 financial crisis, and I think another golden opportunity is on the horizon, I just have doubts that they'll seize it.

This is where the problems with the hard-left elitist leaders of the party sitting on their laurels and patting themselves on the back for having the moral high-ground comes back to bite them. How can they reach out to a middle-class family of white rednecks in Alabama or whatever when they can't stop reminding those same rednecks how backward and hopeless they are in their regressive opinions on gender rights or how stupid they are for hiding behind their religion and calling them hypocrites for their conflicting stance on race relations and their hard-core Christian nationalism. Until the leaders of the party get off their high horses it won't get any better and they have no hope of being the party of the poor and working class when all they have shown is they look down their noses at them constantly. That has to change. Otherwise those same working class rednecks will continue looking for a Trump to validate their world-view and support him no matter what because he says what they feel... Namely "**** them, I'll take care of this rampant persecution of Christians" and they'll believe him and follow him to the end of the earth. Anthony Bourdain was right on that assessment for sure.

If you want three parties the republicans are going to have to split and another party be created because democrats are going down in flames.

One small quibble here, the democrats you are talking about here are in no way a part of the hard left, they are staunch democrats sure, but that’s not the same thing.

The current leaders of the party will never stop looking down on working people because they serve a different master. The chair of the DNC recently said that they are happy to take the money of “good billionaires.” That tells you right there where their priorities lie. They are beholden to a donor class whose interests are directly opposed to working class people.

The way I see it, the only hope we have for true opposition to this rise of oligarchs and fascists is for a movement to spring up on the left to replace the dinosaurs running the party. If moderates actually care about combating this as well, I’m afraid they will have to just put up with some people who have preferred pronouns, or confusing gender identities. Those people have more at stake in this fight than any of us after all.

I'm going to be super honest.

I think what kills labor movements is that white people have to work together with non-white people and put forth an argument that they are all equal as laborers. White people want to think they're getting the better deal more than they want to advance their class.

Is there any Trump supporter here that's ready to admit the **** lately has gone too far and is ridiculing democracy? Do you have balls for it, are you all chickedy cowards?
Of course not. He has stolen directly from Americans, stolen from charity, been impeached twice, is a convicted felon, committed sexual assault (and bragged about it) and raped children and they still support him. And that is just a tiny little list of atrocities he has done.
He is the most corrupt, scandalous, dishonest and immoral person to ever even run for office.

trump told us he could commit murder and not lose any supporters. He called his own supporters sheep and they said nothing except baa baa.

The stuff he is doing and saying now is nothing compared to the things he has already said and done in the past.

That’s the problem, the left has had its hand out the entire time. As soon as that hand was a black man’s, the darkness our country never reconciled with reared up again and slapped the hand away and shot it dead.

You yourself, and many on here, watched it happen, let it happen, justified it, and supported it. All in the name of partisan politics. While I’m glad you and a few on here saw the light, your relentless support of the right wing is why we are here. You can’t blame the left, not democrats - the left, we’ve been screaming this stuff for decades and you all ignored us cause tan suits and birth certificates. Real conservatives, now moderates, need to take accountability for what you’ve help build.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel for you and have already forgiven you, even before you saw the light. I’m happy for you all and glad you’re here. But to blame the left and not take responsibility for your role in this is disappointing and honestly we’re tired of it. That attitude is what got us here.

Don’t be afraid to stand up to injustice and obvious hatred, ever. The minute you get in their face they cower like a kicked dog. Just watch what happens once the country turns on them.

This is one example of how white supremacy and fascism shows it self. There are many, many others if you’re looking. Keep being super honest!

Too far? That would be a 'no'.

Too many corrupt and useless bureaucrats still have jobs. Too many governmental systems have yet to be fully audited to find the fraud, waste and abuse in how our tax dollars are spent. The war in Ukraine isn't over yet. Gaza is still a pile of rubble filled with terrorists. Wages are finally rising faster than inflation but we have a long way to go to undo the damage the Democrats caused over the last four years. We are still at the beginning. The first green shoots are only starting to poke through.

Are you willing to admit Democrats effed things up completely? The American people don't want a President who turned his back on anyone asking questions. The American people don't support abortion of a baby after he or she is born alive. The American people don't support a wide open southern border. The American people don't support cancelling a vote to impose a figure everyone can see is subpar. The American people don't support racial quotas or surgical "confirmations" on children.

Look at the polls. The American people HATE you. They hate Democrats in congress. There is no Democrat thought leader right now because every one who steps forward is hated.

Here is an idea: Fix your own party while the adults are fixing the world.

Good job, America. Seems like you like to hurt kids the most.
