Turkey coach thinks Kanter not ready for NBA

Am I the only one that thinks Kanter reminds him of Matt Harpring. I swear when I watch Kanter post up on the low block with that low center of gravity and pushing his man with his body it reminds me of Matt. I know they play a different game, but Kanter posts old school. He takes his great big butt and moves the guy guarding him back three feet. Personally I love passing to bigs who know how to make themselves big. The Kevin Love comparisons are also good.

Also Kanter ("IstanBull" or "Bull" for short) is a rebounding stud. Because he is not a high flyer he is constantly moving and getting position. THIS SKILL WILL TRANSLATE TO THE NBA. What a stud rebounder.

Defensively I saw Kanter make some rookie mistakes. He allowed himself to get picked a couple of time and a couple of times when he was playing help D he got caught in no-mans land. However, I also noticed that they put Kanter on New Zealand's best big. Kanter can play in space and moves his feet real well. I'm impressed.

I know I'm a broken record on this, but I have NEVER (ever) seen poorer coaching than this Turkish team. No hyperbole .. turrible.

From reading many of your posts (you, GVC and Archie primarily, all of whom I trust on this), the guard play wasn't much better. Add in the fact that it's been Kanter's first true live game action in a couple years and it makes his performances/stats even more impressive.

The kid will be productive in the NBA and play for a long time. The question is how productive. With him, Favors, Hayward and Burks on our team, the sky's the limit. My biggest question at this point is who, if any, will evolve into a true scoring threat and possible stud in that regard. All, in their own way, have that potential in my opinion.

If I had to guess the future scoring outputs of our four young studs, it would look something like...

Burks: 20ppg
Hayward: 17ppg
Favors: 21ppg
Kanter: 23ppg

Worst prediction ever. No way we have 3 guys average over 20, with 4 over 15. Did any other team besides the Heat have 3 players average over 20 pppg? How many times has that happened in the last 10 years?

Edit: Never mind, even the Heat didn't have 3 players average over 20, Bosh only averaged 18.

the same so called assistant coach (nihat izic) said this about enes kanter:

"I've known him since he was like this," said Izic, bringing his right hand up to his waist.

"Enes was always a big kid and pushed the other kids around. He's always had the competitive mentality. That is inside of him. And if they are patient in Utah, they will see he can be a very important player."

enes was again the best player today with 14 points and 6 rebounds, he was the leading scorer again. i think he and omer asik had both 6 rebounds. despite being arguably the best player on the turkish team, enes again was only allowed to play like 15 minutes. but his numbers were great again, he has been the best player for the third time in a row for this turkish team. his numbers are incredible despite him not geting as much playing time as he deserves. but this kid is the best player on the turkish team right now (honorable mention: omer asik), despite being just 19 years old and not having played organised basketball for like two years. those are incredible facts and don't forget, he has to deal with an horrible coach as well. enes' future is bright, the jazz' future is bright. i believe that he will become a 20-10 player in the nba. he is one of the best rebounders i have ever seen, no kidding and he is so skilled offensively with solid and not bad potential on the defensive end. given his work ethic, his extremely mature body frame (he looks like a bull, despite being just 19 years old), incredible high motor (not an often seen phenomenom for a 19 years old guy), incredible toughness and hustler-kind of a mentality and his skillset, he has all the tools to become an elite big man in this league. he has great intangibles as well, does nothing but his job night in, night out! what a steal as the third pick imo. guys, watch out and see what kind of a player this guy will be in 2-3 years!

https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SEA/1988.html The only case of 3 players averaging over 20 ppg (notice the next closest player has 8 ppg though, not 17). This team also averaged 111 ppg.

It's hard to say what those 4 will average. As of right now, there isn't clearly a dominant offensive player of the bunch. The only player I currently feel comfortable predicting is Hayward, I think he will be around a 15 ppg scorer for his career. Maybe have a season or two were he sniffs around 20 ppg, but mostly mid-teens. I think Burks has the potential to be average in the upper teens, with 3-5 seasons around 20 ppg. Favors is hard to predict. Will depend a lot on his offensive development. I really can't even begin to predict his numbers at all. I think he could be anywhere from 15-20 for his career, with anywhere from 17-24 for his prime peak averages. Kanter is even harder to predict. I still think he has some bust potential (Euro posters please don't chew me out), but he could also be a very solid offensive player. I see him having 15-18 ppg career averages, with possible peaks of 20 ppg.

All very rough guess. The only way 3 of these guys average 20 ppg in the same season is if the rest of our team is offensively incompetent/passive. Kanter and Favors development would be boosted if we ever got another true PG.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say they would all average those numbers in the same season, just that that's my prediction for their best scoring seasons in their careers.

I do think the four of them are capable of averaging a combined 65-70ppg in the future though.

Oh, ok. Sorry for being an a-hole. I just expanded my original though with an edit. I pretty much agree with you actually.

This is how I see the scoring like for our young players:

Hayward 15 ppg
Burks 19 ppg
Favors 15 ppg
Kanter 21 ppg

I think Favors scoring will be up and down every night. Kanter will be more predictable. Burks has potential to be a 25 ppg player. I see Hayward as the glue that makes things run. He will not have monster points but he will help keep the floor spread. I think Hayward will be close to 5 apg and 5 rpg too.

Dude, I love Burks as much as anyone here, but no way does he ever average 25 ppg (unless its on a really crappy team).

i do believe that kanter will be the first scoring option in future or maybe burks. but no way hayward or favors. in three years, i expect this kind of numbers:

favors: 15 points, 8-9 boards and 2 blocked shots per game.
burks: 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 asissts per game.
hayward: 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 asissts per game.
enes kanter: 18-19 points, 10-11 rebounds and 2 asissts per game.

I would be very happy if that was the production that the team gets from these four. If that can happen in 3 years then we have a very very bright future.
