ytou may make fun of the french and they may be hated. but one thing they know how to do is REVOLT!

Absolutely, I greatly admire the spirit of revolution in the French. I don't make fun of them, nor do I hate them, why would I? And time and again, their youth has led the way. But I admire their activism. Of course, from my perspective, none of this will alter the truth of climate change, and global warming. And now Brazil has a leader determined to clear cut the entire Amazon. I exaggerate, of course, but, bottom line, IMHO, humanity shall learn the hard way. And so be it. Learn it will.

at least brazil is better off than socialist scumhole. and yes Forrest needs to be purged, it is natural there will no be clear cutting. like in other socialist south american countries around the amazon

you don't hear anything about the pollution happening in socialist utopia Venezuela. where oil pipe lines haven't been maintained so they start leaking in large bodies of water. but it doesn't fit the mainstream media left wing narrative so you don't hear anything from it. socialism is worse for the environment than capitalism

Are you surprised? Humanity, when taken as a large collective, has always lacked the vision and strength of will to make large scale changes that require sacrifice or “pain”. Massive change usually comes at the end of suffering and force.

Can it learn when it’s extinct?

Are you surprised?

No, the cynic in me often overthrows the idealist in me. I think the anger unlocks my cynic, but the idealist can be easily reawakened. I'm a sucker where hope and belief in a higher goal for my species is concerned.

Can it learn when it’s extinct?

No, but as long as some form of life remains on Earth, that's better then no life at all. When I think of tens of thousands of dolphins dying in the search for oil, of all things, or the sixth great extinction event cascading to its conclusion, and people don't give a damn about our fellow travelers on this planet, it's harder for me to care for my own kind then all that life. But that's a terrible state of mind. I think we will survive. I don't like the sadness that all this generates in me. I want an enlightened humanity. I'll be gone soon. I hope humanity gets its act together.

USA Today had a pretty good, straightforward article today about CO2 emissions increasing for 2 years straight after some thought it finally stagnated and was headed for decline (like US oil consumption that peaked in 2005 to decline but now seems reversed).

Stop the fear mongering, fanatical fake news tactics and just report like USA Today so we stop pissing people off. Cutting off your noses to spite your faces.

You are a worry wart and often remind me of Armagheddon Christians. You can preach all you want and fix "problems" in others but the only real way to learn is from experiencing something for yourself.

I believe we are spiritual beings on a human journey. I think we are here to learn the meaning of love, and to practice that love to its fullest extent in this realm. I think we have a long way to go. As do I, I think more then most. Love does not come easy for me at all, and I don't quite understand why. I think we may have to go through some darker times before a time will come when more people then not will remember who they really are in their essential nature, beings of light in a body of flesh, in a morality play set in a realm so vast it seems absurd to believe any of the above can play out in such a cold impersonal universe.

You're not wrong about the worry wart part. At least in a lot of everyday things that beset us all while getting by, etc. But if you saw a friend who was about to step in front of a speeding car, wouldn't you yell to warn him or her? I'll be gone before the type of climatic changes the latest reports suggest lie in the not that distant future, but why can't I simply care enough to yell out, so to speak? Is that an effort to "fix 'problems'" in others?

But you're right, I probably do sound preachy. I'm on a fool's errand in that respect. On a sports forum, no less.

I'll bet nothing I've said has caused one climate change "denialist"(that's progressive culture's term, and presumes the climate change reports are on target) to say, "you know, he's right". (But it's just another topic in our times, is it not? Is there great value in an anti-science administration?) And it takes all kinds. It's news to me, it just strikes me as one of the defining facts of our age. You can always put me on ignore.

As for Armageddon Christians and what I remind you of, well, what reminds you of anything could have more to do with yourself then me, but I do see Christian nationalism, of the American variety, to be one of our cultural mental illnesses at the moment. And one that's been a part of our history for a long time. Whether it's the narrative of Armageddon or the narrative of God is on America's side, I find it pointless and a dry husk.

I believe I bring something here, but maybe you have me dead to right. Maybe I've let social media get the best of me.

What Christian nationalism? Mexicans are Christian. And they want em gone.

I think you’re being sarcastic in a way that didn’t click in with me, but White Nationalists, most of whom only claim to be Christian, have a long history of anti-Catholicism.

Nonetheless, Catholics are Christians, and while there is often a theme of "we're a Christian nation" among white nationalists, I don't think Christianity is the main uniting factor (it's whiteness btw, whatever that means). After all, their inspiration was not a Christian nation. And many Nazis were hostile to Christianity. White nationalists don't care if most blacks are evangelicals or whatever.
