Utes 2011 Football Discussion

Salty, please stop embarrassing yourself All off-season you ranted on and on about the Utes and how they have a good chance to win their half of the conference. They already have three freakin' PAC-12 losses.

More importantly, no PAC-12 wins.

So what? They also have a ton of injuries, including the starting QB out for the season.

Not saying things would be a whole lot different if he hadn't got hurt. But I am saying, we will never know. And I will point out that Utah was dominating Washington when he got hurt.

By the way, their 3 Pac 12 losses will put them at 3rd at the end of the season, behind ASU, and USC (who doesn't qualify). USC still has some tough games (losses) ahead of them too.

So that means the Utes only needed to be better than 1 other team to win the South. I wasn't too far off.

Are you seriously going to come in here with smack similar to "haha, you said they would contend and they only finished second!"

Damn it salty! 90% of the time you do ok and then you ruin it all by saying something really dumb. Utah was trailing Washington 10-7 at the time of Wynns injury. You can hardly call that dominant. Stop feeding the trolls!

Don't listen to him, Stradivarius, you're on a roll.

Uh, no they weren't. Did you watch the game? Washington scored a fg at the end of the half (lirerally, no time left on the clock) to take a 10-7 lead, but Wynn was already hurt at that point. And if you saw the game, you know the score wasn't a true indicator of which team was dominating. Utah was moving the ball at will (2 turnovers in the red zone though) and had dominated the time of possession and total yards. Washington's only points up until that fg with no time on the clock came as a result of Utah fumbling the opening kickoff and Washington scoring on the recovery. But they then went the whole first half without even threatening to score, until Utah turned it over and they kicked a fg with no time remaining.

Maybe you don't understand. If Utah beats ASU a couple weeks ago, they win the South. USC doesn't matter because they don't qualify (although they may very well finish with 3 losses themselves).

So I was not too far off. You guys in here with your "3 losses!" seem to think that puts the Utes way out or something. No, it's 1 win away from winning the South.

Sorry, I forgot the FG came after Wynn's injury. With that being said, I think we've got completely different definitions of the the word dominate. It's all well and good that Utah was out gaining Washington at the time of Wynn's injury, but I don't believe you can dominate a football team without scoring at will and not turning the ball over. Both of which Utah was failing at. Hard to say they dominated any part of that game considering they never saw the lead.

I knew it would go right over your head and hit you in the belly button. Carry on.

Well Utah's offense had outscored Washington's, out gained Washington's, and held the ball longer. They were moving at will, just turned it over twice at the Washington 5 yard line.

Utah's defense had totally shut Washington's offense down to that point. It was all 3 and out. All 10 of Washington's first half points came from special teams after turnovers.

So I agree that the turnovers were a big negative. But they weren't "forced" turnovers. They were just careless mistakes that Utah made.

It's easy to look back on that game after seeing the second half and final score and forget about the first half. but Utah really was the better team before Wynn got hurt. They only reason they didn't lead was because they fumbled the opening kickoff and Washington scored a touchdown on the recovery. But the rest of the first half was all Utah. Well, until Wynn got hurt, Utah turned it over, and it lead to Washington kicking that fg as time expired. It should also be noted that Washington would not have got that fg if it weren't for several stupid penalties keeping that drive alive.

Oh well. What's done is done.

Personally, I like it.

It reminds me of early MTV, Police Academy, Phil Collins, and a whole lot of stuff that used to be relevant.

Ahhh, nostalgia.

No lie, it reminds me EXACTLY of Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. Every time I see Trout post "1984", I picture him living out of a van and tossing a football around while living off the fumes of dreams that were never quite as great as he'd have you remember.

Priceless.

Post of the day right there. Had me laughing my *** off. Uncle Rico- perfect!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jazzman12 again.

Damn...

1984 reminds me of a political regime who controls all aspects of information and transmition of information, and changing it as it deems worthy, while all the while brainwashing the people through misinformation and prosylitization, and severely punishing any who actually have any thought that isn't what the regime wants you to have.

The parallels. They're uncanny.

Yeah, but they out-gained them and had better time of possession. I know I said Utah would win the PAC 12 and the National Championship, but they've had injuries. I mean, the starting QB (who sucks and nobody likes) got hurt and is out for the season. I still think they can do it.
