Yes, you had several posts with vague and mostly abstract thoughts. None of which were particularly disagreeable on ‘vague’ or ‘abstract’ grounds; but all of which became much harder to agree with in real-world scenarios... which you aren’t particularly fond of putting out there.

That’s all good, I suppose... but it’s stomach-turning to hear you crow about being right or ahead of the curve in some way when you peddle in vagaries and abstractions.

Also, the list of posters who preceded @KqWIN with most of the same specific gripes about the team’s construction is long. The conversation goes back at least to the acquisition of Conley and how that deal both handcuffed roster and financial flexibility. Not to mention draining our draft assets to help facilitate any trade.

Some opinions are easier to come by and this should be one of them. It’s like the Dok pick. The fact that everyone could see it being a problem from a mile away makes it more frustrating. If Dok does somehow blossom into a great pick, the criticism of the process of the pick is still valid.

The defensive issues are the lowest hanging fruit for this team. It’s the most obvious and easy identifiable issue which is why I was disappointed that it wasn’t addressed in the off season. Everyone saw the problem in the DEN series, we ran it back and it happened again in the LAC series. Now we’re running it back again. Of course I’m not the only one who fears that the same thing will happen again.

I think Rudy Gay can help this team. I’m still holding our hope that a smaller offensive role can prove to be some kind of renaissance for his career…but thinking that Rudy Gay is the solution to our defensive issues is the same kind of wishful thinking as believing that Miye Oni (4th or 5th best player on the stars at the time) was the solution a year ago.

It pains me to say that as the resident Oni stan….but that’s where we are at as a team. We put our hopes in Oni, Gay, even guys we’re not even sure can play anymore like Dunn and Aminu. I’m not hopeful about those retreads but I understand why they are discussed. It’s a dire situation.

Idk… I fought a lot of people the night we drafted Dok. A. Lot. There was a lot of “sure you know better than the GM” and”he’s not a project… he will be a backup immediately… it’s not dumb to draft your backup center”. There were even some “he’s a poor mans shaq”.

Fair enough. I mean…I do find it strange that people seemed to just forget about our defensive issues this season. I was joking in the game thread that we’re totally going to forget about them once we stomp some bad teams into the ground that can’t exploit our weaknesses. If I’m being honest, it’s not much of a joke because I think that will happen.

There will always be a pro/anti argument for whatever the team is doing. But some opinions are definitely easier to come by and those are the ones that cause me more frustration.

I do remember the poor man’s Shaq and that was out of this world lol.

He’s a rich man’s Shaq. So far his tab has been at least 5x and what we paid Shaq. If I were to have told you on draft night that he’d be a rich man’s Shaq just shy of a year out, you’d have called me crazy.

This was my observation, that we have stopped all ball movement. We are playing exclusively drive and kick or hero ball. No way that is sustainable and we see it already. The motion offense is gone. No more blender. Great recipe for disaster.

I agree . There has been a lot of iso lately.

I think there are feasible moves available, might take some real assets, but I just don't think the FO sees it that way. We've had opportunities to address the issues we have, and we have focused more on safe plays rather than risky ones. I wish they'd take a risk to possible cover the gaps, but they are pretty risk-averse. Say what you want about Ainge, but he took the risks and won a ring. Sometimes that's what it takes.
