On the serious note a pump shotgun is probably the best choice. It is the simplest to use. It will put any perp down. The pump part makes it very unlikely to jam even if left loaded for a very long time.

After that a revolver is a good choice. But the best weapon is to educate and train yourself. The gun is just a tool. Everything is up to you.

My weapon - I do not have anything worth stealing.

I have pepper spray. I'm sure that will really help in the case of a burglary. I imagine it will end up in my own face.
