What's new

What are the plans for next off-season?

I’ve updated the numbers as Hood and Exum coming off fourth year rookie deals will have a 250% cap hold.

Look like 27# and 45# are here for life. We need third star. If we cant move on draft (im sure DL's already know who he wants draft) lets pay Jabari.

Favors and Hood for Jabari and Delly.

Favors and Hood will probably combine to make less than what max Parker and Delly would make next year. The Bucks have to start watching the books. This trade gives them 2 good players for an oft injured potential star. This is a safer and cheaper deal for Milwaukee.

I think the only good option is to trade for him. We would have to gut our team a lot to clear enough room to make a max offer.
If we were able to trade Ricky for an expiring deal then we would have room for a max offer while keeping Exum, Hood, Jonas, Thabo and Udoh.

We do have more room than I thought but

Rudy $23.5
Ricky $15
Ingles $13
Burks $11.5
Mitchell $3.1
Bradley $1.7
Royce $1.4 (partially guaranteed?)

Total ~$69-70M, counting O’Neale’s which I’m uncertain on the guarantee currently.

Plus the Cap hold of Exum $14,977,156 and Hood $7,160,593 puts us at 92. If we add in Sef, Thabo and Udoh we are at almost 105 right?

So if we take off Rubio's 15 that puts us around 90 ish? The Salary cap is supposed to be around 101. I dont see us clearing enough room to offer someone the max of I think 25 million. We would have to get below 76 million.

I guess if we let the cap holds of JJ, Favors and Neto go. Along with opting out of the contracts with Sef, Thabo and Udoh. Plus we trade Rubio and take nothing back or an expiring back we could retain Hood and Exum's cap holds and have a max salary slot to offer. Although I think it would be matched. To me that makes it a big risk to gut our team. I would rather trade for a player now.

The unguaranteed deals of those three guys counts toward the ~$82M base, then add in the 250% for Exum and Hood (I’m not certain that it’s that high... I show about 18.5M combined). So getting rid of Rubio really gives us max space.

Rudy Gobert $23,491,573
Joe Ingles $13,045,455
Alec Burks $11,536,515 8.35
Thabo Sefolosha $5,250,000
Jonas Jerebko $4,200,000
Ekpe Udoh $3,360,000
Donovan Mitchell $3,111,480
Tony Bradley $1,679,520

This is that salary that you are suggesting and that is 65.699 million. Plus the Cap hold of Dante Exum $14,977,156 and Rodney Hood $7,160,593. That adds up to 87.836 million. That gives us about 13.2 million to offer a free agent. If we drop Thabo, Jonas and Ekpe that would clear up 12.8 million more and we could offer ~26 million which is about the max salary.

Our roster would be:

Rudy Gobert
Joe Ingles
Alec Burks
Donovan Mitchell
Tony Bradley
1 max salary player
1 first round pick
and a bunch of NBA minimum contracts.

Am I missing anything?

My understanding is the projected cap is $108. 250% of Exum and Hood’s salaries should be much lower. I could be wrong.

Those numbers are the cap holds for them according to every website that lists the cap hold numbers. I find spotrac to be pretty accurate. Exums salary is 4.992 million. Becuase his salary is below average and he is a 4th year rookie it is 300% of that salary for his cap hold. Which is where the 15 million number comes from. The same is is true of Hood. The 300% is new to this season.
Larry Bird, following the fourth season of his rookie scale contract Below the average salary1 300% of his previous salary (effective 2018-19) or 250% of his previous salary (2017-18 only)2

As far as the salary cap goes I think its just a guess at this point but even if it goes up to 108 we dont have enough room unless we let go of more players than just dumping Rubio. But that 108 number would get us closer although I think that would change some of the numbers on all the salaries. Most websites I see are listing things based on a 101 cap. At 108 it would give us about 20 million to offer a player. From there if a max FA agreed to sign with us we could waive Jerebko or Thabo.

The Bucks would want to dump Delly's deal so they could bring back Hood and Favors. Delly is actually a bad contract and only a role player.

Lets just say Parker gets $20 per year. Add that with Delly's almost $10, you got $30. I guess that Favors and Hood will make a combined $25-28 next year. If I'm the Bucks, I feel safer bringing those 2 on board over Parker and Delly. Hood and Favors for more needs.

For us, Parker is worth the gamble since he would seem to fit next to Gobert perfectly.
