Got zero back and chest hair (asides from a couple tufts round the nips, lower-neck area, and below the belly-button), but decent facial hair and a full head of hair

Bros, if you want to make your razors last longer, scrape the razor up your arm every couple weeks or whenever you feel it going dull (opposite way as you would if you are shaving, otherwise it will shave your arm).
I used a straight razor for a while, and it works well, just takes a while (have to be careful). And it is a PITA to keep sharp. I wanted something that was fast and simple. I switched to an old school razor that takes a safety razor blade. They are really cheap, and it works just as good as the straight razor. I also used Gillette for a while, but I found I used the blades too long because they were expensive. With the safety razor, I change the blades after a couple shaves, so I always get a nice clean shave. The blades only cost $13 for a 100. If you haven't tried a razor that takes safety razor blades, I highly recommend it.
