What Free Agents Do You Like?

I think Utah might sign some minor free agents, but otherwise will continue in asset acquiring and rebuilding mode and try to make a bigger splash in free agency next year when there are a lot better and bigger names available. Look for Utah to be another trade partner for contending teams.

As far as a PG I'd look at Hinrich or Andre Miller (is he a FA?). As far as wings, I may look at Evan Turner. I like Deng, but until we get a legit guy who is our go-to, then I'd find the act of pursuing high-priced accessories as fruitless. For bigs, I wouldn't mind Elton Brand or Aaron Gray.

Bottom line: we won't be hitting any home-runs in free agency. I think, mostly, we need a couple guys who can come in and play their role strong and have legit veteran experience (Andre Miller, Elton Brand). I don't think we need more inexperienced guys with possible upside. However, I'd be willing to bite on a couple guys who may be worth the risk (Evan Turner, Jimmer).

If we're looking for a scorer, we'll have to make a trade, though I don't know what we'll trade. Or trade down/up for McDermott.

Wasn't this said last year....?

If the Jazz plan to re-sign Hayward, Burks and Kanter, hold the #5 this year, and sign what is likely to be a top-10 pick next year, they probably won't have that much cap space next summer.

Problem is, we won't have the cap space to acquire a significant FA next year.

2014: Right now, we have Favors' contract and a cap hold for Hayward, but Kanter and Burks are still on their rookie deals. I forget the exact number (GVC did a great analysis in another thread), but IF the Jazz keep Hayward and renounce all other FA's (Marvin, RJ, Rush, Biedrins) and release all players with non-guaranteed contracts (Clark, Lucas, etc.), they would be $20M+ under the cap.

2015: If Hayward re-signs, and the Jazz plan on retaining Burks and Kanter, cap holds for those two, plus salary increases for everyone else, likely cut cap space in half from 2014 levels.

I look for Utah to make a run at a trade this summer while they can still absorb a significant contract. I expect DL to offer the 23 and 35 to a team wanting to rebuild and get rid of a veteran. But it won't be a player like Biedrins or JLIII; it will be a young vet just off his rookie contract that a team has decided they can't afford.

Josh McRoberts is an interesting fit, id rather pay him than Marvin

Restricted, but Hawyards college teammate Shelvin Mack, was legit off the bench for the Hawks, id consider signing him to an offersheet as a backup, He and Mike Scott put on a show one of those playoff games, hes 6'3", just turned 24, can shoot from 3 (only 34%) 87% from the line, can create his own shot and had better than a 3:1 ast:to ratio on the season. With Teague and Schroder there, i assume he can be had at the right price.

also, I'd take a flier on Michael Beasley if the price is right. I know some aren't going to like that, but id give him some minutes at 3 next year no questions asked, IMO, there's too much reward if it pays off, and if he ****s up, cut him... thats going to be the case with any team. on a 2 year deal with a team option, hopefully he stays motivated to get another contract... hes still only 25

18.9 points, 7.5 rebs, 1.5 ast, 1.0 stl, .9 blk PER 36... on 50% FG's, 39% 3's, 79% FT's is damn good

Kent Bazemore
Looking at his overrall stats it doesn't look great because his low minute totals.
But he started 15 games and played 28 minutes per game during that stretch with the Lakers.
Averaging 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Shooting 37% from the 3
He turns 25 next month.
His per 36 while on the Lakers.............
16.9 points per game, 4 assists and 4 rebounds with 1.7 steals per game. Shooting 45% from the field and 37% from 3

Bazemore is a guy that I've liked for awhile. He's known for his court side antics, but he's a decent bench guy to have too. I was hoping he'd be in the trade last year instead of an injured B Rush, but was not to be. He's a solid defender and can carve out minutes in that niche without being an offensive liability. I'd be happy with him as a bench player.

Because it's Utah and as a group, we tend to favor extremes when it comes to Jimmer. He can shoot, but he's got no defense. Shooting (especially from behind the arc) is something that the Jazz need.

If he's cheap (and I can't see him getting a huge contract as of right now) then he'd be a sound investment as an offensive spark off the bench and for spacing purposes.

The problem is that most Utah college fans (both Cougar and Ute fans) are worried that the attention paid to him wouldn't be proportional to his value and place on the team. As much as Utah can be, it would be a circus. I personally think that's a bunch of crap, but for others it's a legitimate concern.

The Jazz should be looking to upgrade as many positions as possible. Depending on how he falls into the rotation, Jimmer provides an upgrade and a reasonable price. I'd be fine with it.

The fact that Van Horn, Chambers, Miller, Doleac, Lilliard, etc are all better pros by a long shot, than Jimmer, yet he has had more coverage than all of them combined...and people keep bringing him up shows how ridiculous the Jimmer love is.

Another reason why Jimmer love is ridiculous and only brought up by BYU fans: Brandon Davies might be a better pro than Jimmer, yet no one ever brings his name up.

At least Davies can get on the floor more often than Jimmer can.

Unreal. Let Jimmer fade into the Euroleague peacefully.
