What is the "Post thanks/Like" button under post count?

Ahhh.. the good ol' 3 seconds rule... also known as the "Anti-Hack" rule.... brought in specifically for the aforementioned poster.

Can you do me a solid and make it 500 or something. This site needs more bo hooing about the injustices of a private site they argeed to join full well knowing the rules.
 
Does the like button increase reps or anything? Or does it keep a tally next to your rep total? Do you increase your rep power by getting enough likes? Just wondering. Thanks

The answer to all of that is "no". I use it as a "that post was a good post, but not good enough to rep" or "I'm too lazy to rep that post" tool.
