So we didnt get any help from a couple of rookies this year?

Bye Rudy, we drafted a stiff at #20 and signed some guy from the Dollar Store to plat PF.

Notice i also said the pick could be traded (well, the rights to the player the Jazz draft). Thats actually my prediction. Unless Utah ends up top-3, i anticpate a trade.
Out of the playoffs? So we can get "help" that won't really help for a couple years? So out of the playoffs next year and the year after, too?

Bye Rudy. Thanks for wasting your time here, but we needed "help" so we wasted your prime years. You're welcome.

If you put a gun to my head right now I'd say 9th. The winning streak was fun but I really don't think that's who we are offensively. Anthony Davis is doing historic things, Nuggets have more talent, TWolves are still pretty good, and have a good lead over us. I just don't know who we can jump if we can't even put up 100 points consistently.

We do have an easy schedule, and it's certainly not a done deal. Just my thoughts at this moment. If we rattle off ten straight here then obviously things change.

But the storyline of 'Mitchell sort of hits rookie wall, Jazz can't find enough offense and fall to one too many beatable teams to miss the playoffs' seems about as likely as any.

Let's just remember that before the streak playoffs weren't even a thought but we were still very excited for the future. Looking at this playoff chase as house money is a good way to go I think. Should be fun either way.

i think it could end up something like 5-6 teams within one win of each other. We've definitely come back to earth ..but the Wolves have lost Butler which is huge. AD can't keep doing what he's doing every night (and is due to break down) and the Nuggets can score but their defense is atrocious. I still think one or two of the other teams will stumble to a degree. It's great, it's like and extended playoffs for the next 6 weeks !

Whats the difference in draft position for just making the playoffs vs just missing the playoffs though?
Typically I don't think it's much.

I think we end up out of the playoffs. I just hope we really make an effort to make some noise in the off-season. A prime Rudy, alongside an improving Mitchell + a mid- to top-range all-star = serious contender. Right now we are seeing Mitchell trying to get use to being the focal point of opposing offenses and getting through the inevitable rookie mistakes, and no one else to really take up any slack or give him a break from being "the man". We need to find a way to sign a star on some level. A player like Kawhi would send us over the top. I am not even looking for LeBron or Curry or anything crazy, but a 2nd tier guy would be great for us.

Wouldn't it be something if we could pry AD away from the Pelicans or something crazy? That would rock.

I figure the jazz will hit another home run in the next draft, trade for AD or porz (probably both tbh) and then snag kahwi the following offseason.
I would consider that a success.

Meh, that would be ok, I guess.

It would also be cool if 25 year old Karl Malone found a time machine and joined the team again next season. Maybe he could even bring Stock along for the ride.

Quin's offense is easy to defend for teams that switch on pick and rolls. Other teams have discovered this predictability, have been doubling/switching and then covering the passing lanes. I'd love to see the team bring back a few old Jazz sets from time to time. Make all 5 defenders work hard on each play. Teams used to hate playing us. Back screens everywhere, tons of movement. "Advantage" basketball seems to have a lot of disadvantages.
I wouldn't say it's easy to defend, and it has been figured out. Just depends on the match ups. If you have a really good switching team, then yeah pick in roll is easier to defend.

I am in a personal conundrum. I always want to see the Jazz win. the story line of a rookie leading a team to the playoffs is great but on the other hand I want to see the Jazz continue to build through the draft.
The difference between being the 14th pick where the jazz would end up, with out making playoffs, and around 15 to 20 where they pick in the playoffs is 0. Not making playoffs only helps if your top 5 pick, maybe 8 this year.

Can we all stop with the better draft pick nonsense. We aren't going to get a top pick no matter what. Go for the 6 seed, and try to avoid warriors, or rockets in first round

So Donovan didn't score 20 for a game so it's the rookie wall? Ok.

NBA teams are going towards teams that switch everything. When you run pnr to create mismatches, you lose that advantage to a good switching team. When we largely have 3 players stationary on offense, 3 defenders get a break on D. The old Jazz teams were not easy to defend, defenders knew our sets. They were simple and effective. When I look at old jazz rosters, it amazes me how well they did.

If you look at the NBA now you will see every team has a person planted in the corner standing. If you tried the old school offense of only 1 out the defense will sag in and jazz will never score. It's the evolution of the game. We don't have 3 stationary players. You have 1 in the corner, a ball handler, 2 screeners and a cutter/spot up shooter depending on read. The old simple and effective isn't so effective in today's NBA.

Did I say that? I said he may hit the wall because most rookies do. But if you must know the 1-9 from 3 and 8 turnovers definitely didn’t provide evidence that he won’t hit the rookie wall.
Right. 1 game means he is about to. Ok. Why don't we just let the rookie live through a bad game against one of the top 2 teams in the nba with out over analyzing. He had a bad game. That's it so far.

And I haven’t said anything other than that. You won’t get me talking **** on Mitchell, I love him.
