FOJ is killing it in this thread.
It's interesting that you pretty much only hear the "no bad dogs, only bad owners" argument in regard to Pitbulls. Perhaps Pitbulls simply require only the greatest dog owners/trainers in the world. If you own a Pitbull, you'd better not be just a mediocre owner or you will ultimately be labeled a bad owner when your dog attacks somebody. Where with nearly every other breed, you can be a mediocre owner and you'll be just fine.
My little brother, who also happens to be a dog lover, would probably say I'm one of the ****tiest dog owners he knows. My dog is always outside, doesn't get much attention, pretty much only leaves the backyard in the fall when I take him hunting (and occasionally when my kids take him on a 'walk'), he's not trained to do anything other than the few things that are necessary for a bird dog, etc. Credit to my brother, he's a pretty nice guy and just let's it be. My point -- despite the fact that many people would be disgusted with the type of dog owner I am and would definitely classify me as a bad owner, my dog has never, and I guarantee my dog will never, bite anybody. Genetics, indeed.
