Why our young core doesn't play more: The answer.

70% (a number I made up to support my argument) of all posts on Jazzfanz pisses and moans about how the 4 young core of this team (Burks, Favors, Kanter, and Hayward) don't get more playing time over the older guys like Tinsley, Foye, Jefferson, and Carroll to name a few.

I'm a hardcore lurker of Jazzfanz, but will jump into an argument or game-thread here and there to speak my piece. Usually I'll write something in a sarcastic tone that's completely blowing something way out of proportion to try and incite the most vocal (read: post whore) of you all into a frothy argument over who's e-******* is bigger. It rarely works, but I still try.

Anyway, I feel like I've read the same posts over and over again about Jazzfanz asking "Why?", "why no Burks?", "OMFG, fire Corbin for not playing Favors", "Play the young guys moar plz!" etc. etc. Jazzfanz's core posters will usually reply to such threads with either a "I have no ******** clue" or "Yeah, that's stupid that they don't play moar! WTF bro" or some other insightful post for why they think the young core doesn't get playing time, some will even use intricate stats like some David Locke wannabe...but sadly no one is ever right about why they truly don't play more, until now.

Honestly, I would have thought one of you would have brought this up at some point. I mean, get enough monkeys in a room and eventually they're compose a symphony, right? or so I've heard.

But anyway, here's the real, true, 100%, no arguing this, reason why the young core of this team doesn't play more: Money.

Here's my explanation for those who still don't get it.

The reason they don't play more is based soley off the sustainability of the franchise and it's ability to make money and pay for it's talent. The team does not want it's guys on their rookie contracts to shine so bright that everyone in the league will be clamoring to give them the max dollars that this baby franchise will NEVER be able to afford. It's simple economics. By keeping their commodities low profile enough, the team is then able to offer young guys coming out of their rookie contracts who get 10-15 minutes a game, a reasonable amount of money for a reasonable amount of time and therefore, be able to keep together this "young core" into their prime years without having a Harden or DWill or LeBron or (insert name of young talent that leaves the team it gets drafted by for max money here) situation.

The Jazz brass is trying to be a championship contender the only way it knows how (and honestly the only way it can in this day and age of NBA Basketball) in 2-3 years when our young core is in it's prime, not now. Their plan is obviously, keep the franchise going, keep it interesting, keep it in the playoffs and generating decent revenue, then, in 2015-2016 we swing for the fences!! It's a great idea on paper...but will it work? I guess time will tell.

So that's it. I hate to break it to the few of you still holding on to the hope that Ty will change and let Burks play more, or let other guys get minutes over vets that can produce wins on a "just above .525-.535" clip...it's not happening. We're going to ride this Tinsley-Jefferson-Millsap-and-Williams brothers train as long as we can keep squeezing into the playoffs so the "young guys" hopefully will be able to remain affordable, stick around (and not go bat-**** crazy riding the bench for too long) and then go for the top

That's all. Carry on.

TL;DR - Money is the root of ...something-something?

PS. Dear Gordon Monson, this is my intellectual property and the intellectual property of Jazzfanz. Myself, as well as all who post below, will require royalties from you if you use these words for a future column to the tune of 85% of every dollar you make writing said future column. Thank you.

Nobody mentioned this in comparison to OKC's situation. I'm so glad you finally decided to share your 1 in a million insight.

too long to read
attention span to short.
sorry

next time short post
short sentences
easy to read.

thank you have a nice day

If these players don't bust out before they're eligible for an extension or become RFAs, history says they never will. In which case it would make more sense to squeeze every dollar out of the players before you actually have to pay them.

But still, interesting take.

So prescient.
