What's new

Wife might buy a 2017 Mini Clubman -- Talk me out of it, pls.

My wife doesn't want a Mini. She doesn't want a Mini Countryman. She only likes the Mini Clubman. My wife is short and doesn't want a hatch that goes straight up, she wants the barn doors the Clubman has. There is a 2017 Mini Clubman in the color in the OP that she's probably going to buy. Just wanted to see if there were any major concerns about the car being complete junk. She's driven a couple now and liked them, so it's pretty much a done deal.

Can we start another thread, then, about about how and why she has bad taste?

Probably outlive that Mini

1992-1996 Toyota Camry. Prob just needs a good wax job and a set of new tires.
Yeah, I've owned several toyotas and my parents dis as well. The engines are essentially unbreakable. For a mode of reliable transportation they are great. But as was mentioned earlier in this thread, all cars have become significantly more reliable, so there's a point where you can choose something you like and enjoy driving. Toyota cars are about as boring as cars can get. They don't do anything bad but they also don't really do anything all that good.

The Mini Clubman has a lot of character and my wife likes it. Not a car I would want to own but she's wanted one for years now and is finally about to get one.

If he can't be seen alive in a Clubman he shouldn't be seen dead in a RAV4. Toyotas absolutely suck to drive. Great resale of course but you pay a premium to drive a massively underpowered piece of ****. The days of Toyota being a good value because of reliability are long gone since all cars are reliable these days. Mazda eats Toyotas lunch.

My bint has a RAV4 decent motor.

I’m dead serious here:

Ford Focus ST >>>>>>>> Mini Clubman
Disagree. Plus the hatch thing. My wife doesn't want ANY hatch, so it's not a choice between the Clubman and some other hatch. She'd go a completely different direction if she didn't want the Clubman. I don't get why you hate it so bad, but whatever.
