Your Favorite Lyrics in Rock/Popular Music

I hate to come across as maybe annoying, but why the ommission of lyircs from various hip-hop related songs?? Like i love my classiccal pop/pop music, and bands liek the beatles and mr dylan and cash cant be touched, but far as lyrics theres some damn deep songs that surfaced in the 80s and 90s that kept thousands of inner-city kids/teenagers going through the rough.

I hate songs that encourage open minds and togetherness. Music is a freakin escape. Give me songs about fast cars, sluty women, and kickin' some ***.

Wait, what?

I thought that song was about internet porn.

Ya because The Beatles and Bob Dylan, should have just stuck to singing about girls and not CHANGING THE ****ING WORLD

Music is a way to speak to people, to think that it doesn't have an effect on your emotion and society, is literally retarded.

Doesn't it have to change it for the better? Or is just any old change just fine. What if you liked it just fine before they "changed" it?

I am sure many Jews liked the world just fine before Hitler changed it.

^^^ see what I did there? ;)

Right... I'm sure John Lennon was a damn sure Neo-Nazi... but I can see you're being provocative. Well done.

@Marcus

I can't possibly imagine how you could imagine that John Lennon's Imagine is anything but imaginative. Imagine that.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one who loves "Rocket Queen" and "Estranged". The latter is my favorite GnR song and it's a shame it didn't get more love. It's so much better than "November Rain" and some of the other songs that got played from the "Use Your Illusion" albums. The other "Illusion" song I really loved was "Pretty Tied Up".

Love the Illusions. "Don't Damn Me" get's my vote for best lyrics. I think I listened to those albums for 5 years non-stop.

Now that I think about, that probably explains a lot.

That whole album was simply awesome. In fact, the worst song was one of their biggest commercial successes, Paradise City.

Welcome To The Jungle

It's So Easy

Nightrain

Out Ta Get Me

Mr. Brownstone

Paradise City

My Michelle

Think About You

Sweet Child o' Mine

You're Crazy

Anything Goes

Rocket Queen

I disagree. I love the whole album minus You're Crazy, Totally unlistenable imo. The slow version off of G'N'R Lies is far superior. For me at least.

On a similar note,
My favorite songs about togetherness and open mindedness
Shed A Little Light- James Taylor
Revolution- The Beatles
Imagine- John Lennon
Get It Together- Seal
The Trees- Rush (god, those guys were awesome)
Is This The World We Created- Queen
Blowin In The Wind- Dylan (I like PPM version too)
Times They Are A Changin- Dylan
Waiting on The World to Change- Mayer
Never Let You Down- Kanye/Jay Ivy

I'm sure there are others

My post to Loggrad98 was tongue-in-cheek. He seemed to get it. Too bad you didn't.

I agree. You're crazy was a really stupid song. Otherwise the album was very solid. One of the top rock albums of all time.

I still think that song is about internet porn. And apparently John Lennon is a nazi, Joker said so.

How did Chad owning this thread turn into this sorry ********?

If I wanted to hang out with the Wendover Concert Hall crowd...

Bloodhoung Gang Rd II

"Yummy down on this throbbing pole of hot man chicken.
And feel free to wiggledunk those purple bulldog cheeks."

BHG Rd. III

Vulcanize the whoopee stick
In the ham wallet

Cattle prod the oyster ditch
With the lap rocket

Batter dip the cranny ax
In the gut locker

Retrofit the pudding hatch
Ooh la la
With the boink swatter

If i get you in the loop when I make a point to be straight with you then
In lieu of the innuendo in the end know my intent though
I brazillian wax poetic so hypothetically
I don't wanna beat around the bush

Foxtrot Unifrom Charlie Kilo
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

Marinate the nether rod
In the squish mitten

Power drill the yippee bog
With the dude piston

Pressure wash the quiver bone
In the bitch wrinkle

Cannonball the fiddle cove
Ooh la la
With the pork steeple

If i get you in the loop when I make a point to be straight with you then
In lieu of the innuendo in the end know my intent though
I brazillian wax poetic so hypothetically
I don't wanna beat around the bush

Foxtrot Unifrom Charlie Kilo
Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

Put the you know what in the you know where
Put the you know what in the you know where
Put the you know what in the you know where
Put the you know what in the you know where pronto

Deep huh? I like songs about drugs and drinking, what can I say.

Most lyrics... are just words used to convey the main musical melody.

Just kidding, I just tend to like a song much more for the instrumentation than for the lyrical content

I tend to go this route too. The music is what catches me, but the lyrics can make or break a song too. I love the music of Audioslave, for example, but many of their lyrics make no sense or are mis-matched to the music and it kind of ruins it for me. For me the match between lyric and music is what makes a good song great. But if it doesn't move me musically it doesn't matter what the lyrics say.

Unless they are Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder singing about internet porn. That always works.

Ugh, that is true. Good lyrics may not necessarily make a song* but bad lyrics can absolutely ruin one.

*Lyrical rap being the obvious exception.

Peeps might snicker, some of the metaphors and word play that the truly talented rapper employ are pretty legit.

Go to California - Rob Zombie

Blonde haired baby standing by the road
A pistol in her hand and talking on the phone
Said go to California (go to California)
Go to California (go to California)
Sidewalk gazing diamonds in the sky
Silent movie Gods are flashing in your eye
Said go to California (go to California)
Go to California (go to California)

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Lon Chaney calling
Spelling out your name
Where everybody's different
But they're all the same
Yeah go to California (go to California)
Go to California (go to California)
You are perfect you are insane
We love to watch you break from the pain
Yeah go to California (go to California)
Go to California (go to California)

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Bump and grind

Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Bump and grind

Hit the lights and
Strip down on the floor
Everybody hates you
But they want some more
Yeah go to California (go to California)
Go to California (go to California)

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Get up get out
Get inside the outside
Get up get out get in

Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Go to California

Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Bump and grind
Go to California
