The way it works every other team would have to pass on claiming Favs off waivers... we would have to waive him... it isn’t an option it is non guaranteed... so even if he accepts the offer we have to get every other team with cap space to place nice and not claim him... it could happen but only takes one ******* and there will be plenty of team that aren’t using space this year and would like to have a quality player on a one year deal.

Declining Favors' option doesn't make him a waiver claim possibility. If we decline the option, it just makes him a free agent.

If we meet with Favors and his agent on the first day of free agency and say we are going to decline his contract in order to re-sign him to a longer term guaranteed deal, we can have a verbal deal in place on the first day of the moratorium just like he was a free agent.

There is a ton of cap space this offseason around the league. While you may be right about his market when it all shakes out, there is nothing to suggest that you should have such confidence about it.

So when we waive him what happens to those negotiations when the lakers, clippers, mavs, knicks, hawks or any other team that has space and misses their initial target just picks him up? It isn't feasible and I doubt we would try to get him at a 3-4M lower number if we are keeping him. Given his health issues a few years ago I'm not sure we'd see it as a huge win to get him on a 4 year deal...

Also it isn't like he has said this is the only place he wants to play... He was asked what he wants and he wants his option picked up... he has said he like it here, but if we offered 4/48 and Dallas offered the same, but could start and play him at center... I'm guessing Dallas' offer is better.

His backup center minutes are great... but there is a reason the lineup data show our team is much better with Jae in for Favs. Imagine swapping Ricky for Conley in that group... it’d be so damn good... now imagine we add someone that can be 10% better than Jae... now what?

If we can add Tobias, I'd decline on Favors in a heartbeat. I'd say the same for Kemba, Klay, Middleton, etc.

I don't believe that we should trade Favors, Exum, a 1st rounder and essentially all of our cap space the next few years for Mike Conley. There is just too much risk involved - risk that Conley gets hurt, risk that Conley isn't the difference to make us that much better, risk that Exum might stay healthy and improve, risk that Gobert gets hurt and don't have adequate backups, risk that the 1st rounder becomes a helpful piece down the road.

I don't understand where you and @NUMBERICA are coming from. You both are saying that we should move on from him.

I'm saying that I want to extend him at a lower number. In order to extend him, yes, he does have to be a free agent for a split second. But now, both of you are worried about losing him?

So what is it? Do you want to keep Favors or not? What's the deal?

But what if Tobias gets hurt? What if he isn't good enough to get us over the top? Kemba's next contract will carry way more risk than Conley's current deal. All these guys carry risk.

Exum is a negative contract... moving him is a positive. If we keep Favs, Exum, and the pick then we don't have space... next year's FA market is absolute ***. There is a good chance we are worse next year than this year if Ricky bails.

Yes, but to do this re-negotiate deal we have to waive him... otherwise we are guaranteeing the amount. It isn't an opt in... it is do nothing and the full amount is guaranteed or waive him... if you waive him he has to clear waivers prior to signing with us... any team could pick him up if they have the space.

My wish list is DeAngelo Russell and Niko, because I think their salaries will end up being in line with what they deserve and there's a chance we could pay both. I'm scared of paying Harris or Kemba the kind of money that they're going to command.
