What's new

Detroit Pistons @ Utah Jazz, 8pm Central Time

We are so fortunate to have Quin as a coach. He has been the perfect mentor for our young team. It will be interesting to see how he performs two years from now when the team begins to challenge the big boys.

I believe the argument is that those people do not shoot any better in the clutch than they do normally. It is only that we remember buzzer beaters and what have you, and those will typically be given to excellent shooters like Jordan And Horry.
Maybe so. And I won't argue that, but I do know a pressure shot at the end of the game when the game is on the line is different from a regular in game shot.*

*Reference: my vast experience as the 12th man of the year on my HS freshmen basketball team. So yeah, I know what the hell I'm talking about.

Nice win tonight. Detroit did a good job defensively throughout. Luckily Hood stepped up and knocked down some shots down the stretch which proved to be huge. It was also nice that Hayward came up with two big buckets during money time as well after a relatively quiet game (credit Pistons D).

I like Millsap's edge but I'm curious to see if he sticks around next season. Ingles is a goner I'd bet. I think we trade our draft pick for a proven shooter who can guard opposing team's small forwards to replace him. I also hope we can bring in Cooley in place of Evans (as much as I appreciate Evans' presence over the years and I'm sure he's a great teammate).

Goddamn the future is bright! Gimme some shades!

Locke had some stat recently saying the complete opposite - Trey's clutch shooting this year has been horrible(like in the 20s terrible), while Hayward's has been the best in the team. That said Hayward has been turning the ball over in end of quarters a lot.

Yeah, the problem with only looking at shooting percentages is that you can't make a shot you never took because you dribbled the ball off your foot.

I agree with a lot of this, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Ingles back. He won't start, nor will he get nearly as many minutes, but he brings something to the team. He makes good plays and creates for others.
And Millsap, I believe he will be back. He has elite defensive potential and I think the coaching staff will work with him on shooting the 3. He is potentially a good 3 & D guy, which DL has eluded to many times wanting.

Three random thoughts from the game...

1) Dante Exum impresses the heck out of me. His rundown was easily the play of the game, just because it was so random and just pure effort and speed on the rookie's part.

2) Trey Burke made another big shot when we needed it. The offensive/defensive substitutions between point guards works for now, however things will get interesting after Dante's offensive game develops more.

3) I have a feeling Gobert will be working hard on his free throws this off-season. He is too much of a competitor to not let these late game misses eat at him.

Honestly I don't see how Detroit could have played any better down the stretch and we still had enough in the tank to beat them. They were pulling three pointers out of their backsides. Favors certainly has grown up a lot. I wonder if Kanter's departure has been as liberating for him as it was for Gobert.

And while his is working on that, move over to the right about 6 feet and practice taking shots from the elbow. If he could hit that shot regularly. . .

19 freaking rebounds again? Holy crap is this guy even human?

Good to see Exum turn it around a little bit.

He's shooting 53.6% from the field on 15/28 shooting in the last 4 games.

In the previous 17 games he was on a massive slump, shooting 23% from the field on 18/78 shooting.

Another game where the defense gives up less than 90 points. Jazz need a little more offense and to continue playing defense like they have, and they will be one of the top teams in the league.

Tomic, Burks and the draft picks. . . fun team to root for.

Snyder isn't going to be happy at all with this game. The team's goal is to hold opponents under 25 points per quarter, and Detroit score 25 in the second and 30 in the fourth.

It's good to see Exum playing at all. He's a baby in terms of NBA experience and readiness, and yet he's getting better as the season winds down. Realistically he should be barely on the court, plus he hit the rookie wall like a truck. . . and yet somehow he's not only playing through it, he's getting better with each game. Future is bright with this team!

He grabs all the rebounds now. Favors doesn't even bother try.

That worries me BTW. Seems like Favors defers on the defensive glass to Gobert and that was about to cost us this game. He needs to be focused and engaged on the glass. He had 1 rebound in 35 minutes, that's not good.

Went To the jazz game, thanks to being a uvu student so I got 6 tickets for free. They were lower bowl 16th row as well!
Here are some of my thoughts.

Biggest plays:
Exum chasing down that lose ball and getting it too Hood. He just flew down the court.
Goberts pass to a cutting Hayward and dunk. Love that Gobert can pass too!
Trey Burkes floater to give us a 3 point lead. Glad he made it with how bad he's been.
The fans were so loud during these plays it was sweet.

I really liked watching Exum, he's getting better you guys. He's making plays that he wouldn't have a could months ago. Liked that floater too.

Favors was dominating and hitting free throws! It was great to see.

Overall glad we got the win in a tough game
