College Basketball '14-15......

Not sure if this part of the NCAA rules has been updated since the 2009-10 version Wikipedia linked to, but in those rules, part of the criteria for goaltending includes:

"The entire ball is above the level of the ring and has the possibility, while in flight, of entering the basket and is not touching the cylinder."

You can't have rules that are exceptionally vague imo. "might go in" anything that doesn't hit the bottom of the rim might technically go in.

wide right

To me this looks like it has a chance to kiss the rim.

Did the call have to be upheld after review? Anyone?

No, there is no review on GT calls. It wouldn't have mattered. Those photos aren't even conclusive of it not being goaltending. It was just a bad call to make when it no one had a chance to really know. The refs won the game.

It isn't vague. If the ball isn't on track to hit the rim then it has no chance of going in. The ball was wide right of the rim and had no chance of going in.

Those Bruins are lucky ********. First they get into the tournament, then they win on a call that is questionable at best.

Bottom line: Refs shouldn't make calls that they are not sure of. No way any ref could have been sure of that call. Stupid refs deciding the games.

And the ref who called the GT had the worst angle. I hate when refs who are so far way from the play make these calls where having a proper angle is so important.

I thought it was going to hit the rim. I HIGHLY doubt it had any chance of going in but still.

It can be above the rim, but if it's wide right it's not goaltending. If the ball was more clearly wide right, no one would have blown the whistle.
Good post. I didn't see the play but in the pictures posted in this thread it looks like the ball might have hit the rim if not interfered with.

I agree that it had a chance of hitting the rim, possibly. All I know is that if I were the ref I couldn''t make the call knowing I also couldn't later review it.

I just find Bryce Alford super annoying and hate that he techincally made the game winner on a bunk *** shot.

Man, I said Ole Miss and BYU were bad teams...but Ole Miss is baaaaaaad. Holy cow. Worst three halves of basketball I've ever seen.

I agree, its a tough call to end a game on. But ****s happening so fast, refs don't always have perfect angles, and theres no instant replay ... so why the fuuu would you jump up and knock a ball that was possibly going to be hitting the rim?

I 100% support this comment. I hate gingers, I hate coaches sons, and I hate coaches son who are gingers who do way to much fancy dribbling for no reason.
