Some people might make that argument. I dont think Exum sucks right now. I do think he has a lot of developing to do, which he will. Exum is an above average defender for his position in the league. that is half of the game. He is below average offense but not as bad as some make it out to be. He is playing within the system and trying not to make mistakes. People here want a scoring pg from Exum, for some reason, even though fans have been begging for a pass first pg which is what Exum is. He is developing fine and he is completely worn out from this season.
Stocktons numbers his first three years in the league were not that great, he developed pretty well. Stockton was also 4 years older when he was a rookie. Stockton was not doing much in college when he was the same age as Exum.
Would Jazz fans be happy next year if Exum puts up the same stats Stockton did in his 2nd season? He averaged 7.7 points on 48% shooting and 13 percent on threes and 7.1 assist
Stop hoping Exum skips steps in development and start appreciating he is learning the game right, trying to play smart winning basketball. He is listening to the coaches and doing what they ask of him.
The coaching staff knows what they are doing with Exum, there is a reason he is not driving to the rack every possession. He will drive more when he gets the game down.
Exum has shown he has elite potential at defense and passing and an ability to hit open set threes. Seems like a dream player for this team. When other parts of his game develop, when he puts as much effort into them as he is on other parts of his game, watch out.
Exum will be the second best PG in Utah Jazz history. Some will argue the best because he will have a chip to hang his hat on.
I agree Exum could still be good. I just think Lavine can be better, and probably will be.
