Following potential 2015 draftees

He's more similar to Redick than McCollum, IMO. McCollum is an undersized two. Booker is a good sized SG who got good, productive minutes at the most talent filled team in the nation. Can't understate his IQ or maturity either.

I'm not sure with Oubre. Kansas seems to stifle wings offensively, and freshman rarely do extremely well there...I just feel like Booker is safer. I still like Oubre for where we are though.

I don't like comparing Booker to Redick. Redick was POTY and a 25-pt scorer leading Duke. Redick also runs his butt off to get split-second open looks in the NBA, something I don't think Booker is ready to do. I'm not sure how well Booker will make the transition to the NBA---including defense, rebounding, finishing, etc.--the whole package. I think there's some risk there. I feel like guys who were successful as shooters in the NCAA get a real wake-up call when they encounter NBA intensity. Examples include--Jimmer, Stauskas, Evan Turner, Trey Burke... They just don't get the same looks and rhythm they had in college. They have to move to open spots, anticipate the ball and shoot fast. It's a real change, I think.

I'm okay with the Booker pick if that's the way the Jazz want to go, but I think there are better prospects at 12.

You're looking at senior JJ. That's not a fair comparison. Here's an 18 year old who averaged 10 per game in 21 mpg, while shooting above 40% from 3 after a shooting slump to end the year. I have no doubts his shooting translates. I trust his work ethic and his bball iq, and maturity.

As for the other guys, Jimmer was an upperclassmen, and undersized two, Stauskas was a jr in an offensively inflated system (and he's a rookie, give him a year or two). Evan Turner was an upperclassman (I think) who was never known for his shooting. Trey is an undersized PG, who also played in a great offensive system. Calipari will never be accused of having a good offensive systems. I just wish Booker was as cocky as Redick.

What a fun player to watch! I still remember his 40 point game against Texas.

ok looking at the roster

Point guards - Exum, Burke, Cotton (granted i want to trade burke because i cant stand him) I could see a second round pick used here but a vet mentor would be much better like Lin. I also think burks could play here in QS systems since it kinds goes through the wings

wings - hayward, hood, burks, ingles and millsap not a bad group but would complain about a draft of some one that could develop and not need the time. Oubre is a good bet

Forward - Favors, Booker I love booker but he is not great and a bench upgrade would do nice. again a good development player would be nice here. Looney, lyle, portis all could be here

Center - Gobert - this spot is in need of the most help. Granted Favors can play here and the Jazz will probably bring pleiss over a good vet would be a better back up but if Kaminsky is there gotta take him because there are no more centers for a while in the draft.

I think the NBA needs to go to the same thing the NFL does and have free agency before the draft. (although i don't want to wait any longer on the draft.)

Lyles has a pretty shot, but doesn't seem great in the post and seems soft. Wouldnt be pleased with him.

Part of the issue is that he's 250 lbs. He drags weight around on the floor--like Juwan Howard, Carlos Boozer and Al Horford. It holds him back a bit. He was out of position at UK and probably is better in the post than he showed this year.

There generally appears to be 3 groupings of 4 players in the top 12.

The top 4 are likely to be Towns, Okafor, Russell and Mudiay.

The next 4 are likely to include Hezonja, Porzingis, Winslow and WCS. They should all be gone by 10 at least.

The next grouping appears to include Johnson, Oubre, Turner and Kaminsky, plus Looney depending on you feel about him.

So if the Jazz can't move up at least to 9 or 10, it appears we're looking at Oubre, Turner, Kaminsky or Looney. Throw in a few dark horses. Johnson is likely gone by 10 or 11, latest.

I like Booker better than Oubre, just seems like more of a complete player despite being almost a year younger.
His short arms suck, but does have a solid frame so won't be a toothpick that gets pushed around.

Didn't want to start a new thread and this is draft related... Since we missed out on Tomic. What if we did this trade:

Josh McRoberts and the #10 to Utah, Trevor Booker (or the other unguaranteed contracts) & the #12.

McBob passes and is a good shooter. Probably big enough to play the 5 some. We move up 2 spots in hopes that Johnson falls to us or to swap with Detroit who loves Kaminsky (totally made up by me), we add a pick or Trey Burke or the draft rights to Ante Tomic (had to do it one last time).

Miami does this to get out of paying a zillion dollars in luxury tax (they wave Booker) and because Pat Riley ain't got time for draft picks... they flip the 12 for something else.

That's tempting. McRoberts would flourish here, but he isn't much of an effort player like Booker is. He's not an energy guy. Dang, that is tempting though. I would probly do it.

DX has released their full mock draft with pick-by-pick explanations about the picks. Both centers are taken before us, so they mock us taking Devin Booker:

I wouldn't be totally opposed to it because I like Booker, but I think this would be a reach for us. With the players available at 12 in their mock I personally would pick Oubre.

Yeah, I'd go with someone with more perceived upside (who still provides the outside shooting that we need) like Oubre or Looney.

The most under-talked about piece of his game is understanding spacing between defenders. He inherenty knows where to get on the floor based on defender's assignments on teammates. You never see the PG 'forcing/pushing/directing' Booker where he needs to be. He knows.

At first of the year I was thinking he was lucky. Then I understood it's BBiQ

Anyone else think WCS is a bit overrated?

He is not a sexy pick but I guess he is a safe pick in terms of we can be sure what we're getting which is a rare defensive big who could hedge and recover and guard pick and rolls, and that's pretty important in this day and age where a lot of pick and rolls are being played, plus the fact that he can guard 5 positions effectively is a bonus, again he is not a sexy pick but he is a safe and decent pick where he is pegged to be picked.
