Following potential 2015 draftees

Would be super surprised if we trade up for Porzingis. You have to really really like a guy to commit that many assets to a player who is as risky as Porz is.

No one in this draft is good enough to trade up for outside of Russell and Towns.

So you are saying you wouldn't trade up for Okafor if he was on the table for #12 + Hood + Burke?

We pretty much have what we need. That's why it's hard to imagine picking anything other than a backup center or moving up for anything.

We have enough wings we like and would like to see what we can do with them.

We have our starting bigs. There is no doubt about that.

Our point guards aren't the best at this point but are still way young and could develop. Therfore drafting a point guard doesn't make sense either.

Imo, it's gonna be something like Kaminsky or Turner, or we are trading out.

I personally wouldn't mind moving on from Burks, and trading up to get Mario or Winslow. I think we'd be better off. But on the other hand I'm willing to give Burks another shot too. Just not sure his defense will ever come around.

Yeah, bad deal on my part. But saying you should only trade up for Towns or Russell is stupid, imo.
Not really. You could end up making a terrible deal.

What if Hood turns out to be a stud, and then you trade him, picks, and Burke for Okafor who could turn out be a very average crappy one way player. Or someone else who just isn't that good. Then you wasted all those assets and set your franchise back pretty far.

We know we have some pretty good stuff right now and are gonna be pretty good. It's hard to argue we mortgage everything just to take a chance on another lengthy development project.

We could definitely use anohter wing.

Ingles is funny, but he isn't a rotation player on a contending team. I think we need to upgrade that 4th wing for sure. Unless Millsap develops a consistent 3pt shot, we will have to get another quality wing.

Same goes with every position right now. All our backups kind of suck or are just OK other than Hood and, at times, Booker (though he hasn't really shown to be consistent enough). We definitely need upgrades everywhere.

Personally I would highlight back-up center as our least concern since I'd rather just see us go small when Gobert isn't in the game.

Yeah pretty much.

There is a slight chance we take a flyer on guys with tremendous upsides but extremely raw as well though. Oubre, Payne, Looney and Lyles come to mind.

You could say the same thing about any player in this draft.

I don't know if I'm buying all the Cameron Payne hype. He isn't much bigger than Burke, a little quicker, but his numbers are a near carbon copy of Burke's at Michigan's.
He got to the free throw line once more per 40 minutes than Burke did, at the expense of a higher turnover rate.

there's a few important distinctions between the 2.

I could say he's got a better feel for the game and leave it at that, but Ill attempt to pinpoint a few differences;

Payne's a lefty,
his floater is better,
His shooting mechanics are 2-3 clicks faster, sets his feet ultra quick off the dribble
for the most part keeps his dribble lower than Trey,
he's more 'shifty' (stops on a dime),
he's better at baiting defenders with his eyes
I think he maintains composure better when in a compromised situation, splits double teams cleaner,
He's 'sneakier' and finds/creates unothodox passing lanes.

The Burke comparison stops at both being a PG.

They will only trade Hood if they are in love with a prospect. So in that aspect, I would feel confident that if they do trade Hood, they must be near certain they are drafting a very good player.

I just doubt they feel that way about anyone within reach.

I agree. I don't see a for sure thing in this draft anywherr. Although, I'm sure there is an all star or two. It's just hard to be sure who that is. My gut tells me it's Russell. He about the only one I'd swing for the fences on. But even then Im not sure.

You forget that Burke was a really good college PG in a much better conference than Payne played in. There is a reason we traded up for him and posters like Dalatard made threads dedicated to him.

It's easy to look at these prospects and say they look great, but on the NBA court it's a much different game, especially for PG's.

Payne does seem to be a lot more athletic and bigger than Burke even though the #'s don't suggest that big of a difference.

For as good as Payne looks, he still isn't an elite level (or close to it IMO) athlete and he has average PG size. He is going to struggle at the same things Burke struggles with, probably not as badly, but I predict teh struggles will be similar.

Many thought Burke could have gone top #3 in that draft had he been a few inches taller.
