Following potential 2015 draftees

Nice. I think the Jazz FO would actually agree with me on this one. You're overvaluing Hood for his performance in mostly meaningless games towards the end of the year. Kevin Pelton's analytical comp for Hood most recently is Calbert Cheaney. I'm not in a hurry to trade Hood away by any means, but would do it if that's what it takes to get Hezonja, who will be a significantly better player. Quote me.

Bobby Portis doing the 3p shooting drill in the Phoenix Suns workout:

Wasn't great... shot 8/20...

Damn that shot is ugly...... er, I mean unorthodox. Seems like a very slow release too. I did like the air ball from the corner though

A lot of people are comparing Hezonja to JR Smith...

Hezonja is obviously taller than JR and likely drives to the rim better. JR Smith is actually one of the better physical talents at the SG position. It's just that Smith's shot selection is erratic. I don't think that comparison necessarily holds with Hezonja. Hezonja has scored efficiently.

I don't think he's going to be a 3-pt shooter. He's a decent shooter out to 20 feet though. His shooting motion as it is now, isn't conducive the hucking the ball from 3-pt range.

Portis has good touch in the hand and wrist, but he's probably going to have to change his motion to keep the ball in front of his body. This behind-the-head stuff won't work.

His misses weren't even close either. His makes were probably just luck. He doesn't look like a good shooter at all.

I could see the Jazz like Winslow more than Porz.

I do.

Winslow is third overall for who I would pick. (Russell, towns, winslow)

Hezonja actually has historically low FTA/36 for a major prospect(1.2 FTA/36) so without having numbers for his drives, I would guess he's not driving much. His FTA numbers are Dante level as far as I know this season in Barcelona. I don't know to what level he's been neutered by Barcelona's coach, though... he hasn't been playing much lately... tons of coach decision DNPs.

New extended mock draft on DX:

https://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft-extended/2015/
12. Devin Booker
SG (Kentucky - Freshman)
18.5 years old | 6'6" | 206 lbs

2014-15 NCAA (38 GP)
10.0 PPG 2.0 RPG 1.1 APG 19.7 PER
The Jazz have built one of the most talented young rosters in the NBA, with an exciting blend of talented length and athleticism . Outside shooting has long been a priority of this new regime, and with that in mind, drafting one of the best shooters available in Devin Booker could make a lot of sense.

I'm a huge Mario fan myself, and would give up some assets to get him, but I'm not sure I'd give up Hood. I'd probably be more inclined to give up Burks if that could get it done.

His form is unorthodox, it doesn't suck. He has a high release, it's not slow, and it's consistent. He gets good arc and rotation. Nothing to fix there, just needs to tweak it for more consistency.

Not sure why form should be an issue when he is a well above average mid-range shooter. It may limit his ability to be a knock-down 3pt shooter, but I doubt it will limit his ability to become a good corner 3pt shooter or midrange shooter.

Cy.. Why don't you just cut your losses on Portis. Stop before you get too far behind.

I want no part in that ugly *** shot. I literally lol'd when I watched the video.

Sucks for him. Going from #2 overall when the college season started to probably undrafted if his injury is serious. I was never a fan of him, but maybe he'd be a decent undrafted pick-up.

Unpopular opinion: I'd be very wary drafting Winslow in the top 5 or 6. He has a decent set shot, but I don't know if he can develop much of an offensive game. His handles are so-so and he resorted to bullying people in the paint in college which he wouldn't be able to do at the next level. The tournament raised his stock more than I thought it would.

I also don't think D'Angelo Russell is as sure a thing as other people think. People are saying Brandon Roy/James Harden/Steph Curry, but I see more of a higher IQ/better passing, streaky Jamal Crawford type. He can shoot, dribble, and pass, but I just wonder if he can put those tools together to effectively break down defenses with his dribbling and passing, or hit pull-up jumpers to open up the other parts of his game. He definitely has a very high upside and I'm sure if he goes to the 76ers and they let him put up 15 shots per game he can put up some great stats, but I don't know if it will eventually translate to winning games.

He shot well on the season and has a quick release. 20 shots is not that big a sample size. Was he warming up? Was it after a fatiguing drill? Id like to see him shoot 200 shots then figure it out from there. That said, i agree. His shot is ugly and 8/20 is not very good. You cant argue with 40+% on the season tho.

Portis' 3-pt shooting isn't there right now. He'll have to rebuild his shooting form. It will be a project. He's got good touch, but will need his shot re-built. It could be a deal breaker with the Jazz if they want someone with 3-pt range this year.

FWIW, I don't think Trevor Booker shooting 3s is pretty either.

But if were thinking Looney, Portis, or Hunter, I wouldnt mind trading down a few spots if it means picking up another 1st. Our bench is not very talented and we will need to start filling it out. The problem is while Houston is able to sign corey brewer and trevor ariza, our best pickup is trevor booker. We just cant make good free agent signings in utah so first rounders and high seconds are going to be important for us going forward. The more we can net, the better off we will be.
