Jazz to actively pursue Paul Millsap this offseason, per Spencer Checketts

If you ignore the most important things players usually consider, it makes sense. If you don't ignore it - it doesn't. It only makes sense if he's willing to give us a discount salary wise AND is willing to play a smaller role AND is willing to take a step back from a team that just won 60 games and made conference finals to a team that's still rebuilding.

So the Jazz won't talk to him and see what's up? The rumor is that the Jazz will pursue and inquire, actively. Do you deny that the Jazz doing so makes sense?

The rumor isn't Millsap is considering (though I feel that he will at least give it some thought) the rumor is the Jazz are going to take some steps to persuade and talk to Sap.

Would you not agree that Utah has a better future than the Hawks?

I would argue, especially if Sap comes over, we will have a much better team than the Hawks.

And as I said earlier, his minutes can be the same on this team and not have it really disrupt any team balance. His role would be similar. It's not like he was the clear cut #1 option on the Hawks (and Im sure he is very self-aware that him being a #1 option isnt going to win much in the PO).

Future, yes... like... the future that probably will be at the back end of his contract, when he will be on the decline. I don't think we will have better future in the next 2 years for example(if Atlanta keeps its core and we continue our progression in a reasonable fashion).

lol what is this?

Towns & Okafor aren't 30 year olds turning down the opportunity to be starting all-stars on a 60 win team, and they would be on rookie contracts. This isn't even remotely comparable.

Top-3 picks expect a lot of playing time and will demand a big contract after the rookie deal. Smaller than what we would probably pay Sap in the long run. Plus we expect to contend in two to three years.

Paul would definitely have to come off the bench. But why would Millsap do that? Only motivation would be his prior relationship with Quin and the opportunity to play with his brother. Jazz could free up a max slot (release Booker and even trade their pick for a future first). Just don't see it happening though. Besides, doesn't Millsap's agent have a bad relationship with the Jazz?
Lol. It would be ironic if His lil bro got cut due to Paul resigning.

Also, what if the Jazz offer a Millsap a 1 year deal?

Maybe Millsap decides to take a 1 year/10 million dollar contract to set himself up for the cap explosion next year?

Jazz do it to nearly guarantee a playoff spot and bolster our young core's experience.

Millsap does it because he knows he can still get 28+ MPG and probably still put up very good stats, setting himself up for a big contract in the year the cap booms.

So does anyone see this as a possibility?

Also younger guys, especially top tier talent, tend to entitled. See Enes Kanter.

No. If he wants a deal like that he has far better options. Including staying in Atlanta.
.
I find this whole "rumor" as laughable. The Jazz and Millsap both have moved on. It's not an ideal fit for either and therefore I find the rumor to make no sense, all the way around.

I think I'm only fine with this deal if it's a 1 year 10 mill contract or something like that.

It would also mean cutting Booker, which would totally ****ing hurt. Who becomes our badass/enforcer of the team? We definitely don't want it to be Gobert-- our franchise hopes completely ****ing depend on that dude's health.

I say we don't do it. We need a backup 5 more than a 4 (Fav plays better at the 4), so let's just grab Tomic. Tomic + drafting a shooter makes much more sense than Sap right now. Maybe he can come back further in the twilight of his career when we make a concerted championship run.

The more I think about this, the more I'm not a fan of it

It doesn't really matter what the top 3 picks expect, because they aren't free agents. They don't have the luxury of turning down an offer from a team to come off the bench if they can get a guaranteed starting role and more money elsewhere. See the difference?

8 pages already and it is still 18 days until free agency begins and 28 days until anyone can sign. Plus, we have that little thing called the draft to deal with too.

So does anyone see this as a possibility?

It is a possibility, but I wouldn't say it's likely. He's not the youngest player and I doubt many teams would give him more than what he can get at current max when he's 31 year old. He's entitled to 30% max now.

30% of 68M is about 20.4 with rising salary of 4.5% every year, that would be 21.3M second year, 22.2M 3d year, 23.1M 4th year(or thereabout). That's 4 year 87M contract. What's the chance he'd get a better deal after next year when he will be 31 and his level of play might even drop this coming year. If I were him, I'd take the max now instead of waiting for next year. Not many free agents get huge money at 31.

I'll be surprised if anyone gives him a max contract.

Jazz tried to trade for David Lee before the trade-deadline. So is it safe to assume the Jazz would be willing to pay Millsap at least up to 15.5 million?

What about max for max amount of time. Would he do it?

We don't have the money. Max we can give him is about 14-15M if we want to keep his brother and that would mean renouncing all other non-guaranteed contracts(Booker, Cotton, Cooley, Johnson, Jerrett... am I missing somebody?).
