Following potential 2015 draftees

Qualls declared for the draft to provide for his family/son. I think we often forget about the very human aspects of professional decisions.

Damn, that's even more sad ... :(

Maybe the Suns will do the right thing and draft him in the 2nd round. ACL tears aren't as bad as they used to be and Phoenix does have one of the best training staffs in the league. Draft him. Sit him. Let him heal. See how he looks a year or two from now, when the roster spot is more valuable.

That's what I was thinking too. They brought him in for a workout and they should do the right thing by drafting him to get him back on his feet. He just might end up as a steal. :)

The Hornets are another team that might be good option for trading up if we decide we like somebody too much to wait for at 12...

I'd do this deal if I were the Jazz. We have too many assets sitting around going stale. Give them a 2nd-rd pick and a salary swap. Leave less to chance. I would hop ahead of the Heat and Pacers to get the one we want.

As I said earlier - with all the international prospects dropping out of the draft, I wouldn't mind if we consider him as a stash player and draft him with our 54 pick and help him recover and get his start in the league. He has solid role player potential.

He would take up a roster spot right?

Philadelphia should draft Qualls.
It is sad that he entered the draft just to have money to take care of his family. He just saw $500K flushed down the toilet (assuming he was going to make a roster).

Do players (or teams) have any kind of insurance for workouts. Seems like they should.

I didn't think the NBA had an injured players list. You can get a roster exception of too many players are hurt for a significant amount of time, but I thought teams were limited to the 15 man limit - injuries or not. Not that I'm opposed to taking him late and punting on his rookie year. . . I'm just worried that the Jazz use the end of the bench spots for turnover and tryouts. Not sure keeping an injured rookie fits that narrative.

I read that here:

To be fair I'm not certain it's reliable.

Rosters used to be 12, with a 3 player injured reserve. They did away with that, and now have a 15 man roster with a 3 player inactive list. You can be inactive for several reasons - injury, D-League assignment, poor play, etc. just like Noeland Embiid had to count on the 15 man roster for the year they say out, Qualls will still have to count towards that number and just spend the season rehabbing. Not a bad deal if you have the roster spot you're willing to burn for a season.

I really wish college guys could withdraw just like international players can. He'd likely go back to school, take a redshirt year and come out after his junior season.

Oh, I see... thanks for clarifying...

meeeeeeeh.. I was as high on Qualls as most anyone you could find, and considered him a fringe first rd talent. Now I'm not sure if he's draft-able, perhaps at 54. As I wrote earlier about his skill level being a work in progress, I fear 6-8 months of little upkeep could prove to be counter-productive.

Quite the exodus from this draft the past 24 hrs..

As it stands right now, after about Pick 20, I think we see the **** hit the fan. There also appears to be a precipitous drop of talent now somewhere around the 40's, straight to the D-League types.

I would be happy with drafting Qualls and putting some resources into his recovery, but I doubt that happens.

Bummer for Qualls :( Not knowing the draft rules is there any kind of weird way we could draft him and not sign him this season similar to a Euro player just to keep a roster spot open? If so I'd say at #54 he might be a good get at this point, lots of the 2nd rounders I was interested in dropped out. Richaun Holmes and Mam Jaiteh are the only two left I really like (maybe Upshaw if he sold our front office in interviews).

Still plenty of good stuff at the top end though, just not really expecting to find much in the 2nd now, oh well.
