What's new

Pleiss

I'm pretty excited that we might actually bring a euro over for once after years of speculation of Tomic.

If Pleiss can be a serviceable backup to Gobert, the Kanter deal is looking pretty damn good.

Pleiss + a 1st round pick + a 2nd round pick for Kanter.

The hidden value in that trade is what happened to the team after we traded Kanter. Gobert really found himself.

I'm pretty excited for this team, I really hope Pleiss comes over, he shoots 85% from the line and is a good rebounder.

A rather moronic statement, in all honesty.

Exum's post all star offensive stats show that, yes, his offense is brutal and in need of dire improvement.

However, he is not heading for bust-ville, especially if you take into account the Jazz record once Exum started in the latter half of the 2015 season.

That's the problem with making up statements that I simply did not say. If you're arguing that Hood's post-allstar stats do not represent his offensive talent, you are simply mistaken.

Exum is a bust if his offense does not improve. Sorry there are no 5 PER players on any playoff teams, not even any 10s. Our second half record was a combination of Rudy Gobert, loss of Kanter (addition by subtraction), and teams tanking for a higher pick.

Matty "Finals MVP" Dellavedova.

System under Corbin (where Burks was a primary ball handler) vs. system under Snyder (where the wings initiate the offense frequently). I know some disagree, but I think Burks would be brilliant in Trey Burke's role from last year.

Give me a starting lineup of Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Carroll and Exum. Bring Booker, Lyles, Hood, Jingles and Burks off the bench. Move Trey for an asset, or have him compete with Cotton/Hanlan for minutes as the 3rd PG. Roll with it for a season and then re-assess where and how to use everyone for next year.

The versatility of that group is fantastic. Add spot minutes for Pleiss, Millsap, Cotton, etc. Continue focusing on player development through the season, and lock down your top 9 players for the playoffs.

Been saying the exact same thing. Literally. Don't expect Dalaburke to hear it.

Rodney Hood GP MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% OR DR REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS

Post All-Star 26 24.1 4.4-9.5 .464 1.6-3.8 .420 1.3-1.7 .814 0.2 2.0 2.2 2.1 0.2 0.8 2.4 1.0 11.8

This ****ing guy averaged this in his rookie season while closing out games as primary ball-handler, and we want to reward this by giving him a ****ing bench role in order to address our essentially non-existent defensive problems after Kanter left?

Baffling. If Cleveland can shut down teams with JR and Kyrie getting intense burn, I think we'll be fine with Hood playing okay D at the 2.

You're drastically over-rating our perimeter defense.

It seems to be you, Ellis, and myself. The rest of the board seems to prefer sticking with 'Trade Bait' as backup pg.

I don't think the latter had anything to do with our record. We beat the bad teams because we were better than they were. Don't forget, we also rested players here and there. I do agree, though, that Exum will be a bust if his offense doesn't improve. But I'm not ready to give up on him. That length and speed can make him an elite player. He's really not that far away from being a "good" player. Timidity is the only thing stopping him. He had plenty of forays into the lane where he would get there and then dribble back out. Maddening, I know. But it shows he can get the initial opening; now he just needs to take the next step.

Pleiss at 4-8 million or kanter at 15.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Well not that simple, really. Kanter will always be better than Pleiss.

But Gobert stewing on the bench and then demanding a trade or Gobert starting with Utah getting a cheap. serviceable backup in return for a whiner?

No, we didn't get value for Kanter. But it was a trade that had to be made.. The pick was wasted, but a bigger waste would have been a $60M contract for Enes. Sometimes you just have to recognize those sunk costs and move on.

Wanna bet????

Wait, are you saying that the rest of the board do not want to trade trey? I'm going to have to say you are way off on that one

I would be happy to see Tibor come over, moreso than Tomic at this point actually. Not that I think Pleiss is a better player, but the whole Tomic thing has been so over-played I am ready for something new. And I think Pleiss can be a very nice piece with legit size, solid athleticism (if not stellar, still good) and the potential to be a 2-way threat. I say let's do it.

From listening to DL on 1280, sure sounds like the org is intent on bringing Pleiss into the fold now. It sounds like the ship has sailed on Tomic (he'll be 31 when his contact with Barcelona ends) and the Jazz have moved on to younger prospects.

I want Tibor to teach Gobert that hook shot. If Gobert could hit that hook shot that Pliess hits with regularity he would be unstoppable. The more I read about and watch Pliess the more excited I am about bringing him on. With him could we go true big-ball, with Exum, Hayward, Favors, Pleiss and Gobert? Or Hayward, Hood, Favors, Pleiss, Gobert? Would be crazy to see that a few minutes a game even.

That last line up would be
7'2 - C
7'1 - PF
6'10 - SF
6'8 - SG
6'8 - PG

HUGE line up. But some worries on Favors ability to stick with opposing SFs...

I wouldn't worry, shut down the 3 with huge wing defenders and shut down everything at the rim and then how can they do anything? Gobert + Pleiss would be a negative shooting percentage at the rim for opposing teams damn near.

But that would be a ton of fun to watch.

Yup, I want to trade him as well. Especially if the Jazz go into training camp with Exum, Cotton, Hanlan and Neto.

What Ellis, Hey Hey, and myself have been saying is that a great slice of Burke's minutes should go to Alec. This frees up minutes for another wing. I know Ellis and myself have been lobbying for Carroll. Not sure about how Hey Hey feels about that part.

And, Yes, it does seem like this is a rare opinion. I think Numberica might feel the same. Not sure.

I'd consider some minutes to Burks as a back up PG. But I want to see what the Jazz do with the PG position this offseason. Looks like they might go into training camp with 5 PGs. If 2-3 of them light it up that will drastically reduce Burks chances to play PG. If Exum is good and the rest suck it is much more likely to happen.

I would be OK with Carroll coming over, but if he did than that is the end of Millsap or Ingles.

Have the 1-3 look like this maybe?

Carroll/Hood/Ingles
Hayward/Burks/Exum
Exum/Hanlan/Burks

or

Carroll/Hood
Hayward/Burks/Millsap
Exum/Burks/Hanlan

Those line up don't even take into consideration Cotton, Neto or Burke.

I am not fully jumping on board yet but it should be looked at by Snyder.

We had a top-ranked defense (based on opponents' ppg) largely because of our pace.

opp ppg was largely impacted by our pace, I agree. However, post all-star, we also were 2nd in opponent fg%, 5th in opponent 3pt%, and ranked 6th in paint%, 5th from 5-9ft %, 6th from 15-19ft %, 3rd from 20-24ft %, and 1st from 25+ feet. I don't think the perimeter d is as weak as you think.
