First and foremost, I can only think of two reasons why Indiana would part with George, who was widely considered a top-ten NBA player (and probably the second best two-way wing in the NBA) before he injured himself:
1) health concerns re: injury
2) Indiana is thinking that he won't stay with the Pacers long term, and wants to get a Deron investment.
I wouldn't trade Gobert for George, and the Jazz won't either. I can see them trading Favors if they intended to keep Lyles, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Who would play the 4? Hayward and George are basically a wash in terms of who's more talented IMO (maybe that's my bias-- I've always thought Hayward is better offensively, and George defensively) so that doesn't make sense to me. Burke, Burks, Hood, 2017 first rounders, and 2019 first rounders aren't chump change-- but it's a hard sell to their fan-base.
That leads me to Exum. This kinda explains why we drafted another ball-handler, AND we're bringing in Neto. At first I was thinking "this literally makes zero sense"-- but they're probably just trying to bolster their PG play.
A package of Exum, Burks, filler, and picks seals the trade IMO. On par with basically most superstar trades that we've seen in recent memory (Melo, Deron, Love, Harden, etc.).
It just kinda hurts cuz I really do believe in Exum-- plus, him and George Hill are both pretty similar IMO. Maybe they intend to ship Hill out too? Who knows.
