What's new

Utah Jazz vs. Boston Celtics July 6th, 2015 7 PM Mountain Time *Official Game Thread for SL*

Kevin Pelton tweeted that Dante's +/- was +31. I'm not a huge believer in that stat, but it says something. Exum controlled the game.

I actually am getting into meditation right now, have you heard of float spas? it's like cheating meditation for noobs. Yeah, I worked a lot on my footwork while playing ball and I haven't rolled an ankle for a long time, guess I learned from my mistakes. I was going to school for computer programming and after going through that life change with the weight and spirit, I'm starting over and heading for a degree in sports science, emphasis on injury prevention. I'm actually looking to hop on as an assistant coach somewhere in Saint George, but all spots are covered ATM.

Haha.. haven't tried it, looks interesting though. Sounds good man, all the best with your study seems like you're pretty passionate about it and that's always a good start :)

+/- is close to meaningless stat in small sample sizes, but the thing with Dante is that this is a recurring thing - he is consistently posting great +/- numbers in long stretches. He was the best player from the whole regular Jazz rotation for the whole season in both +/- and on/off numbers. This could be a really nice pattern emerging... I hope he keeps it up next season.

I'm looking for a VOD of the game right now, but the highlights are very promising. Dante really looks like his practice starts to pay off now that his body has developed in the right direction.
Lightning quick first step opens the lane and his strength and length(Okay still mainly his length at this point) allow him to finish around the hoop.

I love that Boler called Exum a "mouth breather" like it was a good thing. It was so funny.

Boler is such a nob. Wow. How does he even have that job.

Lol at the people saying the light finally going on for Exum. People still think he was mentally weak last season was the reason he didnt drive much.

Was it part of some master plan then? Hold him back, don't let him play super hard and push the ball on offense. Make sure he passes up those blow-bys in the lane. Then WHAMMO, unleash the BEAST on the Summer League.

Brilliant!

I hate it when you are just walking along not even playing a sport or anything and you step in a hole in the grass, or on uneven ground, and wham! Ankle sprain.

Thanks god. You could have designed the ankle better.
Ya this is bs.
My right ankle hurts right now just from stepping off the bottom stair in my house wrong a few months ago.

And I have rolled ankles from stepping in a whole before too

I was once told that a reason why people dead with re-spraining a ton is because their ankle is never really allowed to heal and strengthen to the same extent as their other ankle.

I have that problem with my right ankle right now. Never took it to physio-- I still need to stretch it a ****-ton before every basketball or soccer game, cuz it's still stiff/hurts. It sucked, I actually went through 20 years of athletics never spraining anything (I had superb ankles) but then I just really ****ed it up last summer.

But never a partial? Those partials can be dangerous.

Man the show Dante and Hood put on last night was exciting. We may not see Dante the rest of this summer league though. Hopefully he is ready sometime in Vegas. Or maybe they should just sit him the rest of SL even if his ankle is fine in a few days.
.
Cooley, Chris Johnson and Cotton all looked like NBA bench players as well. Hanlan got very little opportunity but did not impress me much (typical for most non lottery pick rookies though).
.
Motum looked like trash, I was impressed with him last year, this year he didn't look like he even belonged on that court.
.
Didn't really watch or care about anybody else.
.
Exum did everything last night that fans have been wanting. It backs up the statement that last year he just did not have success in practice driving to the basket and did not want to hurt the team. This year I hope he gets over that and plays more like last night even if it won't always be successful.
.
I loved the play early in the game where Dante drove against Smart, Kind of knocked him out of the way and made a great pass to Cooley for an easy basket. That was a move he couldn't have made last year. He did not play with contact and he showed that this year he was not going to be afraid of it.
.
Edit: Forgot about Jerrett, He looked okay. Hit some shots and played within the offense, nothing spectacular but not horrendous either. Sorry we won't see more of him for a while. Not sure how bad that was but even if it's fairly minor it will probably be a week before he's ready. If it's not minor he's done for SL.

You probably don't do enough re-strengthing and rehab on it either, right?

I don't know. I twist an ankle almost every time I play. Somehow I never hurt anything and can walk it off. Once I stepped on someone else's foot though and was done for half a year.

RJ Hunter - holy crap. He looked Jimmeresque defensively. Sure, he couldn't throw it in the ocean on offense, but defensively, he was scary bad. The fact that he's so skinny doesn't help, but didn't move his feet and just looked helpless regardless of who he was defending. What's worse is that this is a three year college player who will play next year at age 22. Not close to being NBA ready.

Welp, at least I hope Exum today learnt the lesson about driving into the lane and being careful about stepping on feet, etc. He drive into the lane more today than he did past 3-4 months so this is a valuable lesson for him.

These things happen. The only lesson to be learned is one I hope he does not retain, and that is to play cautious. If Exum plays the way that most on this site want him to then this will not be the last time he rolls an ankle. Playing cautious at 80% is not the recipe for success.

He needs to stay aggressive, but there are ways to protect yourself that he will figure out.

Exum cant help that Terry Rozier is retarded.

I'm excited to see what Exum and Hood can do when playing with real bigs... Cooley was good last night, but I think there were a few assists missed out on trying to get the ball to Motum and others who couldn't catch or finish.

Also noticed Hood was getting doubled/trapped a lot on PnRs.... he seemed to get whatever he wanted in iso.
