What's new

Neto Officially signed.

OK but what is not apparent right now is what DL is going to do with Burke? Are you saying we're trading him?

Are you OK with Exum, Cotton, Neto PG lineup when you want to make the Western Conference playoffs? To me that's thin.

What I think is most important is that we think enough of Neto to bring him over now and not later. To me that means we want to develop him into a potential starter. I agree it's unclear of what to do with Trey Burke right now, but to be honest, Western Conference championship at this point is a little far-fetched. So I'm down for Exum/Neto/Cotton at seasons end.

I'm good with developing Exum and Neto further while unloading Trey for another big wing/shooter. Possibly someone who can replace Ingles as he ages. Although, I already think we've got that in Hood.

OK but again who's backing up Exum if we want to make the WC playoffs?
I don't care or know.
Probably one of cotton, neto, or Burks.
Or someone that we get back in the trade

Your asked why the jazz would trade trey. I said maybe they would trade him because he demands to be traded

Are you suggesting we carry 4 PGs into the season (includes Exum)?

Yes. I'd keep 4.

(01) Exum - (02) Burke - (03) Neto - (04) Cotton
(05) Hood - (06) Burks - (07) Millsap
(08) Hayward - (09) Jingles
(10) Favors - (11) Booker - (12) Lyles
(13) Gobert - (14) Pleiss - (15) Cooley

I'd intend to flip Burke and at least the 2016 1st (lottery protected) for a veteran at the deadline to make a playoff push and run this year. And during that time, I give some of (if not all) of Trey Burke's minutes to Alec Burks in the playoff rotation. Not sure I want to rely on Neto/Cotton in the playoffs when Hayward, Hood and Jingles can all initiate the offense.

No flexibility if there is a player we like and available in a trade, just to keep an extra PG who likely won't see any time and no time to develop on the floor?

Still don't see that as a valid argument to keeping Trey just so we have somonee to backup Exum. We're building for the future, drafting Trey may have been what was best for the team at the time... but he isn't what will be best for us in the future.

This may just be an Enes Kanter type trade all over again IMO.

LOL I'm not for keeping Trey, I'm for not signing Neto (too late now I guess).

Having said that.. it's a pretty good deal... only less than $1m per year.

Even if you're just gonna have him develop in the DL with a few NBA games here and there... can't hurt.

Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA
Brazilian point guard guard Raul Neto signed a three-year, $2.8M deal with the Utah Jazz, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Kinda like you just had lunch and is stuffed, and just want a cup of coffee, then the waitress offers you a deal where you get your coffee and pay $1 for the muffin that usually costs $3.

You say yes to the muffin even though you can't fit anymore food in and say to yourself "Great Deal".

I think Neto will be solid off the bench. Hoping Snyder and company can improve his shot to go with his creative passing. I absolutely want to trade Trey, but I don't see any movement on that until the deadline. Deals don't usually get made until then. I think Burke outplays Neto/Cotton initially, but like Kanter/Gobert, replacing him leads directly to improved team play.

Agreed, and excellent choice of "muffin" on your analogy. Seeing as how the "stud muffiny" everyone seems to think he is. Considering how many more jerseys we will sell... this deal is looking even better!

Now that I've seen how much it cost us I'm pretty sure Neto is destined for the D League for most of the upcoming season. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.. remember that Gobert was once honing his skills in the D League as well.

I would be surprised if Neto play any meaningful minutes for us next season.

On this basis I think Burke is safe (for now), but with Neto and Cotton knocking on the door, he has certainly been put on "notice".

I bet Neto's negotiations with DL went like this:

Neto's Agent: Hey what would it take for you guys to sign him? Neto is really interested to give it a good go and experience the NBA.

DL: Well... we're pretty stacked at the PG position...

Neto's Agent: Well he won't be asking for much.. just really a chance to play & improve.

DL: Well the best we could do is around $1m per year... (thinking the agent would say NO)

Neto: GREAT!! We'll take that!!!

DL: But, but, but... you'll have to spend time in the D League .... it's not ideal... you won't like that...

Neto: Where do I sign?

No, his agent just saw Neto wasn't exactly moving up in the world of European basketball so he might as well come to the NBA now while Utah is still interested in his "potential".

Welcome to Utah, Raul Neto. I'm also worried about carrying 4 point guards, but the fact that he came over and signed with us already makes him a winner for me. Unlike, Ante Tomic who eventually seemed more interested in using the Jazz as leverage for his contract talks.

Kinda agree with Cy's post. Although I also believe that the quality of opposition he faces in the European league is no longer pushing him hard enough to improve. If that's the case: you either move on to bigger things or stay a big fish in a small pond.

Neto is a facilitator and passer, the finishers on the Jazz are Hood,Burks and Hayward.....Dante has the talent to lead the league in assists as early as next year, not this year ...but bet on it Dante will be nearly 8 assists this year.Utah doesnt need a bad shooter on the 2nd unit for points ,they need someone to continue to keep pushing the ball just like Exum.......Exum and Neto can push the ball ,it's going to be what Snyder wants ,pace and PNR basketball ,Trey Burke had many shots to make himself a big part of the picture ..writing is on the wall

He was impressive two years ago

Whats impressive is that he didnt look over matched. He was able to create, get to the lane, and score a little bit.

I think he needs to focus on being a distributer, and not worry about being a scoring threat. Yes, work on the 3, and the
jumper to keep the defense honest. The most important thing for him is to make the offense flow, and break down the
defense. I think he can do that at a high level.

I'm sure you have all seen this but here is Neto vs guys like Irving/Rose in a Team USA vs Brazil scrimmage last year
