Report: Jazz rebelling against small-ball trend

Looked like a stroke of genius coaching going 4 small on Cleveland to win the title. But the biggest key to a Golden State title was Kyrie Irving getting hurt.A big difference between Irving and Dellavedova.Irving playing would have allowed Cleveland to pound Golden State on the boards like they started the finals.

Which brings me to the Jazz ,who I think is bringing a anti smallball lineup onto the court with Exum at 6'6" PG,as fast as any PG in the NBA.I can see Exum being a 30 minute player on the court this year, playing when the opposing starting PG plays and sitting when he does.I also think Exum and Gobert have changed the focus of the Jazz ,defense ,defense, defense with Favors closely behind Gobert and Exum in defensive importance.
I'm real curious if Burks is going to get any backup PG duties.Makes a difference who's going to be the 5th guy behind Exum,Burks,Hood ,Hayward on the perimeter ball handling.I think there will be a lot more fastbreak opportunities caused because of the perimeter defense ,which puts in doubt Trey Burke being around this year .Burke is really poor in running the fast break ,tending to throw up wild shots than being able to deliver on man advantage attacks.
Since seeing Exum play and seeing him jump higher ....the Jazz can actually jump out early surprising everyone with a long lengthy defense that leads to scoring opportunities .Taking care of the Jazz greatest weakness as of now ,scoring enough points to play with the elite teams created by steals and rejections.

Commas and periods go AFTER a word. NOT before!!!!

"Not before" is not a sentence. Also, even if it were a complete sentence, it's a grammatical no-no because your sentence would have ended with a preposition. Let he who is without (grammatical) sin cast the first stone. In other words, let colton be the one to chastise.

Anyway, getting back to the thread, the Jazz are going small-ball, but just with big players. The whole small ball thing is designed to put quicker players in the game. We have that with Exum, Favors, Hayward, and Burks or Hood. At center, Gobert is going to eat any 6'7" player for an appetizer and then go after the rest of the opposing team for dinner. Rudy is not a plodding big and neither is Favors. Both can get out and defend in space. I often found myself laughing last season when I'd see Rudy switch out on a guard and see that guard pull the ball back down. How do you shoot over the Stifle Tower?

You forgot to criticize him for his four consecutive exclamation points.

Shouldn't the thread title be, "Opinion: Jazz rebelling against small ball trend"?

Or is there some legitimate report that the Jazz are going against the grain? I didn't see a link to anything.

Good teams play to their strengths. Golden State just played to their players strengths and it becomes small ball to the media. They discovered Draymond Green on their team and he turned out much better than what they expected ,similar to Gobert to Jazz.
Another team that can blow up the smallball trend is OKC .They can rebound and score ,they can be in the top half in team defense and be elite.
Jazz will be top 5 defense. If they can get in the top half of offense ,their a playoff team .If they can get top ten in scoring .....elite.

Colton said "your are" in a post the other day. He is now unclean.

I think our length will be good against most teams.

Against GSW though, I can easily seeing us having to sub out Gobert. In our last match against them, they destroyed us by using their pace to their advantage. They scored before Gobert could even get back. If we want to beat them, we'll have to match their speed.

I agree with everything here except for where you place Favors on the pecking order. I think Favors might be our most important defensive player because he can defend power forwards that can step out and ones that can post up. Our ability to switch 1 thru 4 is helped by Dante being big, but equally important is Favors ability to guard smalls. Finally, Favors can play C when teams go small on us. The Warriors were able to beat the Cavs when they went small and increased the pace of play. We'll be able to do the same with Favors without giving up rim protection. Also, he can be a good antidote to teams that try to do the same to us. Favors in my opinion is unique and a little underappreciated!

Nah... You just put Gobert in with Exum, Hood, Hayward, and Lyles/Burkes. Everyone can cheat on perimeter defense because you have paint protection with 1 player. I think that we matchup quite well against the new stretch trend. Worst case scenario you use Favors instead of Gobert. We maintain length, paint protection, perimeter protection, and length with that sort of lineup against virtually any team's small ball lineup.

After Kanter left and Rudy started getting more minutes, the Jazz were number one in the league in defense.

So four obvious starters are: Exum, Hayward, Favors and Gobert.

Who do you think the 5th starter will be, say, by the All Star break this year?

a) Burks

b) Hood

c) Lyles

yes they were, but with a new season coming up I think everyone can agree they should be at least a top 5 defense while thinking they can jump right back to the top of the NBA as they left off
