Exum Injured

Great. What are the chances Exum begins doing steroids or some other illegal substance to aide in his rehab?

I read some study reporting that use of growth hormone(which they just made illegal in the NBA) can help with recovery after ACL reconstructive surgery.

I'm certain doctors orders trump any ban. I'm also sure that the levels the doctor would prescribe would be nowhere near what an athlete would opt to prescribe himself.

I'm not too worried, as I'm not as high on Exum as some. Trey will be the starter, and we have two promising young guards backing him up.

If Trey busts hes gone mid season if not sooner, but I don't think this will happen. Now that Trey knows the starting job is his to lose it will further motivate him
to put it together. Can't wait to watch the development of Cotto and Neto.

Dont worry Trey haters if he completely blows DL is going to make a trade. Yes, this injury does complicate things a little, but the season success was always more about
the rise of Gobert, the continued all star pontential of Hayward, the return of Burks, and rock steady Favors.

I know most people consider Trey Burke a bust already but I believe he may bounce back this season. He already deserved another season even if it was not for Dante's injury. If he disappoints again he's finally gone. His poor play last year may be a fluke. Guards don't go from 90% to 75% FT like that, there must have been a mental issue. Hopefully he'll leave those mental struggles behind, buy into Snyder's system and make the most of his final opportunity of being a key part of a very good team. However he does not seem to the best fit with his size and defense.

We know DL is not afraid of making bold decisions. Our team is only a strong PG away from making the playoffs and even contending for years to come but we did not want to hurt Exum's confidence and development by bringing in a veteran PG who can contribute right away. Now we may trade for a real starting PG. Exum was a project, now he is a project with knee problems and if Burke is not the answer why wait?

Just read the news, what a bummer.

Not only worried about the physical aspect of it but I'm also wondering how this will affect his already fragile confidence. If people were criticizing his aggressiveness before, imagine now...

This will slow down his development considerable. The good thing is that he is young and by all accounts, posses great work ethic. Let's hope he comes back stronger.

On the other side, this likely means more playmaking duties for Alec Burks and Gordon (still not sold on Trey and the other guards).

Terrible news. I won't go so far as to say that this kills our playoff chances, but it definitely lowers them. Exum played a huge role in Utah having the #1 defense after the ASG & if we're going to make the playoffs next year, it's likely going to be on the strength of our defense. My concern isn't so much about next year (as we were unlikely to be more than a 7/8th seed) as it is the long-term development of Exum & the impact that it has on the future of this team. My other concern is the impact this has on the likelihood that Hayward returns when he is able to opt-out. I hope we are able to bring in a veteran PG or trade for an upgrade in order to give the team a better chance at competing over the next two years in case it takes Exum that long to come back. If not, hopefully this allows Burke to reestablish his trade value &/or position on the team. Here's hoping Exum has a speedy recovery & eventually reaches his potential in spite of this setback.

Atlanta loves DS, they aren't trading him. Not getting EP either. Huertas is realistic and can play. He'd be a solid get. That said, the Jazz, if this is an ACL, will hand the keys to Burke (with Neto and Cotton backing him up) and it will be do or die for Trey.
I'm leaning towards die.

Shröder does become RFA in 2 years though right? They are already paying Teague and have Mack as another PG.

They might not want to pay Shröder in 2 years time (ala OKC and Reggie Jackson). So getting x2 firsts might be enough to pry him away.
As much as I like Schroedinger, I would not give up two firsts for him even if they both turn out to be late firsts.

That's an overpay IMO.

So if Exum is out for whole year does he count towards 15 man roster?
Would Jazz be able to sign a sixteen contract?

They people that were "meh" about Dante as a prospect and are now "meh" about this injury need their heads checked. Yes, the kid had some things to work on but our record with him and Rudy as starters, coupled with his defense are some of the biggest reasons this young team was expected to make a playoff push this year.

This is an absolutely crippling blow to his development. While I actually believe that DL and Quinn might be able to make some moves and somehow move on from this, it's devastating to see for what Dante could become as an individual player. I can't remember the last time a Jazz injury gutted me like this. Brutal.

I dunno, he's certainly one of the top guys of all time. Can't argue with talent like that.

Yeah but he was so indecisive. Is the cat alive? Is the cat dead? Good hell man just make up your mind!
