What's new

Donald Trump

Who cares if a candidate has charisma or not? We're not voting for a movie star.

This. We want someone who does the job, someone who doesn't support the idea of spying on US citizens and recording phone conversations for the sake of our 'safety'.

We're gonna get what we deserve, another scumbag that straight out pisses on the Bill of Rights.

That this utter buffoon is currently leading the Republican primary tells us a good deal about the Republican base and why it is absolutely essential for the well-being of this country to check their power/influence over public policies.

Hey jimmy, eat this: Your cookie cutter platitudes tells us that it is absolutely essential, for the well being of our community, that you check yourself with some details and specifics... name calling aside.

I discounted Trump as much as anyone, but his exercise in outlining an immigration policy, pulling in Sessions and whomever else, demonstrated action better than we have seen in quite some time. Agree with the policy or not, at least it is spelled out... contrary to the approach of most Dems and Reps in DC.

And as for turning over power/influence on public policy to the Dems... I hope, for your sake, you live in California... (which I have for many prior years). Great place, except for the unbridled Dems totally screwing up the water, economy, pensions, spending, and more...

You're basically stuck with the farther left (like Bernie Sanders, who's repeatedly argued against the war on Drugs and has legalized possession of small amounts of Mary-J in his home-state already) or the libertarian right-- i.e. Rand Paul.

A democratic socialist, or a libertarian. That's the choice that America has left you with :D

And they are better choices than these middle-of-the-road, politically-correct, milquetoast, corporate lackeys who serve the one percent and the military-industrial complex, which is all there is in the mainstream.

This may be the first Presidential election in which the base of each party get their guy selected.

Alexis de Tocqueville hit the nail on the head when he said mediocracy would rise to the top in a mass democracy such as America's. Paraphrasing him. Would define us well to nominate the most uncouth among us. The low brow braggart. Imagine what cultured people around the world must think with a spectacle this stunning, unfolding before all our eyes. It would be extraordinary to establish a nadir in President Donald Trump. This is something I could never see coming, yet he's the distillation of the American Dream. You look at this dream, the Coronation of Consumerism and Tinsel, and you realize, no, it was all wrong, built on a foundation of appallingly shallow dreams and aspirations. The only place Trump could really appear is right here. It almost seems proper that he be President. And intelligent, perceptive people the world over must be slack jawed. But, if Alexis were alive, he'd say "I told you so". The book that described our nation, our people, and our future was Alexis de Toqueville's "Democracy in America", published way back in the 1830's.

I'm just as tired of the "boy who cried racist" types as I am of the people that may be legitimately racist.

It's turning into the go to move to attempt to discredit someone.

From my POV it feels that racial tensions have gotten much worse over the last 4-5 years.

Perhaps, but perhaps it's just that we're more aware of things that have been happening for years but are now more public because so much is getting recorded on cell phones

The Rodney King beating seemed to be the first recording of this type of incident and that seemed more like an isolated incident at the time, when was that, like 20 years ago?

I think, with ordinary people in the course of their everyday lives, things are perhaps improving. But that's just based on what I see in my own experience in my little corner of the world.

I never watch the news, but I was at a Burger King the other day and I walked by the tv and it said "Trump takes larger lead in the polls" or something like that.

Make America Great Again.

Social media and cell phones go back father than 4-5 years though. I think calling attention to it is great but it seems a side affect is racial tension. Understandable imo.

It's always darkest just before the dawn.
