Here's the truth around Covey.
Stephen Covey, Britain's older bro who graduated from Timpview the same year Unga, Ashworth, and Matt Reynolds did, was just as explosive offensively. However, at that time Anae was highly entrenched in his traditional offense. Covey went to BYU to play QB and special teams. Anae though, never actually gave covey the chance to play QB. The relationship turned sour as Covey never got playing time and Anae became increasingly (verbally) abusive.
since then Anae was fired and was exposed to the "go fast" and "go hard" offense. Since his serving of humble pie I think he's a little better. He'd be open now to a running QB or a smaller WR (like covey).
However, when this covey came through, because of the past experience with his brother, this covey wouldn't give BYU the chance even if they had recruited him as a QB.
The only logical choice was to either go to Utah St or Utah.
Covey wasn't recruited by Utah as much as Anae ran off the family between 06-10 by never giving Stephen a chance and then becoming verbal abusive later on. He would call Covey "entitled" or "trash that was only recruited because of his family's money." It was bad. To this day I'm not sure why no one put an end to it. Especially when you consider several other coaches on the staff knew the Covey family and had sons who played high school ball with him (Reynolds & Kaufusi)
Covey isn't the only traditional BYU family that Anae has scared off. Like I said, I think he's a little better now. But before he was fired and before he went to Arizona, he was one arrogant SOB.
