I guess this is as good a thread to post this thought as any: It's going to be really interesting to see where this Utah/BYU rivalry stands 20 years from now. Especially from a fan perspective.
It seems like the majority of younger BYU fans (that I know personally) come from families that were steeped in BYU fandom during the prior generation that were enjoying the WAC dominance of the 70's and 80's. Just my opinion, but it doesn't seem like BYU generates many younger fans outside of that demographic, and even then, some of the children/grandchildren of that group seem to break away to Utah.
When you couple Utah's move to the PAC, the decent success they are having, especially in head-to-head meetings, and the growing numbers of non LDS population in Utah, I half wonder if two decades from now, Utah hasn't swallowed BYU whole.
That might sound crazy, but if you look back 20 years, BYU easily surpassed Utah in fanship and rooting interest. Now we're at a point where more people polled, report that Utah is their team. What is going to change that for BYU if you look at the current trajectory?
