What's new

Jazz have arguably the worst bench in the league

They were trash last night (as a whole), but even as bad as Trey is I can't imagine him being that awful all season. If he is they need to ditch him for anything and use their assets to get a quality player at the deadline.

I guess the front office needs to decide how much they want to put into this season. Is it playoffs or bust? Do we sacrifice assets to help us this season? Or do we let our top end carry us as far as they can this year and prop them up in the offseason?

I don't think it's playoffs or bust. Compete and improve or bust would be a better bet.

Yea, that's my stance as well (I still think we will make the playoffs mind you). Which is why I'm not too phased with the strength of our fringe players just yet.

We aren't championship this year no matter who we get, so whats the point? Apart from making it easier for us to watch, and maybe keep guys like hayward and favors upbeat if it does help us make the playoffs.

Ingles, Johnson and Whitey are mediocre players.

Go the NBA.com website under tranactions are puruse the guys that were just cut. There is about 100 of them. There must be somebody in that list that could help the Jazz.

You mean like Ingles, who we picked up off waivers last year when he got cut by the Clippers after training camp? According to the OP, he's "mediocre", although he was probably the best of all the training camp casualties. So are you advocating picking up yet another "mediocre" player, or are you saying Diamond77's assessment of our bench players is wrong - in which case, why do we need another player?

Lyles is more a long term project. He better pan out though...

"Devin Booker, Suns

The sweet-shooting 18-year-old off guard was the lone bright spot in the Suns’ ragged loss to the Mavericks, scoring 14 points on just seven shot attempts."

After the first game of the season many Cougar fans thought they were destined for a NY6 bowl game. Lets not overreact to one game.

It's not just one game though. Many here waited with bated breath for the free agency period, and were rather unimpressed with the players signed.. I called them out for it right away.. I was hoping at the very least they'd go after a popular FA like they did with Trevor Booker, instead they chose to try and hold serve, basically as is..

Pleiss is on this team to try and recover some value from the Kanter trade. He wasn't the best option available for that $$$.. Going from Gobert and Kanter to Gobert and Pleiss is an obvious massive downgrade..

I don't really think the jazz have too many 'cakes and pies' either.. They could've had way more... If I could tinker with the roster, there'd be way more, the average age would be like 22 and Hayward and Booker would be the only ones left 25 or older.

My plan involves a bit more trial and error though, I'm sure the Jazz have decent basketball reasons for the players on the roster, I'd be doing some full time cultivating/hording talent type ****, like Minny, Denver and the 76ers, The Jazz could see field a competitive team like that IMO, their not making noise in the playoffs anyway - plus the next pick would be higher..

Then I'd add vets like next summer or the one after that, to optimize the roster..

the rest of the sentence should read that they were almost all layups in garbage time so don't read much into it.

Disagree all you want, it's true. I'm the OG Kanter hater and I can see this.

Talent wise it's a downgrade, but the minutes that gobert plays are a huge upgrade. It would have been nice to get a better player than pleiss but having Kantner gone is a huge plus. The guy sucks. He might score and rebound, but a team will never win with him as a major contributor.

OKC is going to win this year man. It looks like Kanter is going to be averaging around a double/double.

Would you be happier if the Jazz had kept Kanter and paid him the max?

How daft are you?

I was one of a few people who strongly opposed drafting Kanter. I can't stand the guy, but he is better than Pleiss/Withey and our depth is worst without him. I dont want him or to pay him that much, but our depth is worse without him ,it's just a fact.

Jazz wasted an opportunity this offseason. Plain and simple. Hopefully Lyles is better than all the guys taken after him.

Anyway, this thread is likely an overreaction. It literally has been one game.

Reading comprehension, champ. I didn't ask that because I thought you'd answer in the affirmative, I asked that to get the bolded part out of you - the only part of this that actually matters. With Kanter, ultimately the Jazz are better off without him and his contract. Nothing else is relevant.

It's relevant because people are talking about it and to deny Kanter can help the Thunder and that they will win is just sounding bitter, which isnt a good look for Jazz fans.
