Trade Deadline

To backup Exum next season? You want to waste $13 million for a backup pg? Better to use those money to buy other players next season.

It's one season where we have to fill up the cap anyways. Unless you can list all these great players that would be better to spend our money on for one season.

Not next season. If Lawson pans out, then he can start next season, and be resigned for a cheaper contract afterwards as he'll be 30.

If he actually explodes next season, he'll become a valuable trade asset.

What do you guys make of this 38 min. ago?

What is the risk? Worst case scenario is he basically the same player Burke is now and we cut him next year and we get a 1st round pick.

He is not basically the same player Burke is now. He has been significantly worse than Burke this year. Like it hasn't even been close.

I don't like this mentality to fill up the cap anyways. This team bench has to be improved for next season with targeted additions.

Draft picks have become very valuable recently. HOU's pick would fall between #16-#20, I wouldn't say that is 'worthless'.

But it's not so valuable that they should refuse to trade it too get rid of their problem. Again the Jazz are in the position of power here. Houston needs to do something and the most likely thing is getting rid of Lawson. The Jazz are perfectly fine standing pat and riding out the season. Without that pick, the Jazz should not even be talking to Houston. With the pick included I'd not do it for the Jazz.

I actually like the idea. Lawson was a pretty good player (nearly 15 ppg / 10 apg guy) when he was traded to Houston. If they're right and it was just about system and chemistry then you just got a pretty good veteran PG for free. A low risk buy low move. It doesn't work you just cut him. He does great you get one year for free with the team option. Low risk, high potential reward.

Quick Question to those wanting HOU pick included:

If you're a GM, would you trade a late first for Trey Burke?

Houston has been trying to get out of Lawson for weeks now. So it's not a 1st to get Burke. It's a 1st to get someone to take Lawson.

Then we have to give up some dudes because we've got a full roster already. I'm saying we have to fill up the cap because we literally have to. The Jazz have to pay the minimum cap regardless so it'd be wasting money and flexibility not taking a salary dump like this.

Houston wants out from Lawson's contract and Utah can afford to take him off their hands and gamble that Lawson can play like he did in Denver. If he's in shape he can open up the offense for Utah.

Rudy Gobert and Rodney Hood were late first-round picks, so let's kill the narrative that late firsts are worthless.

Trey + Booker for Lawson and a future first? I say absolutely.

And, sorry Ty, but 3 DUI's kills your ability to bitch about what city you might not want to play in.

We won't get a first in this deal guys... At best maybe a pick swap with the gsw or OKC pick
