Donald Trump

Hey Hants,

No trolling or hate here, I promise. Would you mind giving me your definition of feminism, please? I'm curious.

Well that depends. My definition of what I think feminism is, or what the media today reports as feminism?

/I was just making a corny little joke at Dala btw.

There are a lot of feminists who blame homemakers for the plight of women in today's society.

Issue is child care and child rearing are, you know, requirements in mammalian society, so if the biological parents aren't doing it for 8 hours a day, someone has to.

I think everyone seems to want to do right by us (women) in this discussion... just like anything else, we don't all want the same things. Some of us want to stay home and some want to stay in the workforce, and that's okay. Just don't say we're lazy either way! I'm not offended by Kasich's comment, I think in context 30 years ago there were more women at home, but lets be honest, women get stuff done, so if anything it could have been a compliment! ;)

Feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men". We've kind of made it mean different things in the last 20-30 years.

We need more feminine intervention in this forum, seriously.

I'm not highly offended by Kasich's original statement as I grew up in the era of predominantly stay-at-home mothers. Politicians need to be careful about how they speak about women, certainly, but often when acknowledging a bygone era people tend to use language from that time as well. It happens. What matters more to me is how women's issues today are presented and if the speaker "gets it."

IMO, Kasich seems to be the only Republican with any sense at all, which guarantees he will not go much further. If this all wasn't so serious, I would be completely enjoying this crazy show. The Republicans have made a huge mess of their party and they are getting what they have earned. If as an independent I am able to vote in the Democrat primary (which seems to be up for debate in the Legislature at present), my vote will be for Bernie. Not that I think he would be able to do most of what he is campaigning on, and not that I agree with all of it anyway, but I could sleep at night after casting that vote. I will be voting third party in the general election, probably Jill Stein.

It does seem that there is a crowd of liberals that think it's offensive for women to wear short skirts unless they're trans.

I believe feminism in its truest form is just seeking equality for women in all things. Equal opportunity for jobs based on skill, equal opportunity for education based on skill, etc etc.

I kept it short and easy cause I'm lazy and it's the Internet.

If that's the case, that's a really really sloppy way of describing his 70s campaign. I get that for the sake of parsimony he maybe just mentioned the kitchen line, but you simply have to be a better communicator.

Saying something like "I probably won my campaign thanks to the tons of female volunteers who, unfortunately, tended to live much more sedentary lifestyles back then-- meaning they were able to pour in more volunteer hours than the women of today can."

Statements like that also carries the stigma of how motherhood isn't really a "job" that demands the amount of work and time that it does.

Long story short, Kasich is a governor, and he should be a lot more careful throwing words like that around. If he wants to become president of the US, lazy slip-ups like this simply can't happen. Especially when you're going up against the Putins of the world. Just my opinion.
Nice work. Your adjustment to the quote is more offensive than his actual quote. You're talking about how careful he needs to be with words and you apparently don't know what sedentary means.

the reason that it's unfortunate is because there were millions of women who wanted nothing to do with being a stay-at-home mom, however the norms of society incapacitated them, and they were never able to pursue their dreams.
Thanks for your analysis of something you apparently know almost nothing about.

Well, that's certainly worth bankrupting the country over.

I think Bernie is the least likely of the major party candidates to bankrupt our country. The danger isn't spending on infrastructure and social services. We're propping up the market in order to protect the wealthy, that's what is going to **** us. We've pumped insane amounts of money into the system held interest rates at 0 and we are still facing the possibility of deflation. I expect the other candidates will continue down the road of worrying about the banks and forgetting about the economy.
Bernie sounds like he is more focused on the kinds of things that have preceded every American Boom era. Public investment in proven infrastructure, education, and technology. Also people that get social services spend them which would be much better for our economy than protecting rabid stock values and poor investments.

Fwiw, I would LOVE to see Dala tell my stay at home wife, with a baby, how her lifestyle is sedentary. She'd get a kick out of that.
