Utah Legislature to Audit U of U Athletics, In Light of BYU Rivalry Suspension

The real reason isn't the punch. The real reason has been stated over and over and over again.

From Larry's mouth:

Compounding the problem for me is what I consider to be a lack of remorse after the behavior, both in things said and left unsaid, and I have no reason to believe this pattern of behavior will change on its own.

It's very simple. After Larry spoke to Rose about the situation, he felt it was not being taken care of properly and so he left.

I've been saying this the whole time. For this to work, there has to be respect that comes from both sides. When one side does not respect the rivalry, then move on.

Utah is the #13 team in the country. They have a shot to win the PAC-12 this weekend. They will be the #2 or #1 seed in the PAC-12 tourney. They have a shot at a 3 seed. Maybe a 2 seed in the tournament.

Here is some tidbits from ESPN today:

Because Jakob Poeltl is a monster you should fear
Trust us.

Because Utah just raised its hand and yelled, "We stand out!"
The Utes' victory over Arizona on Saturday was their sixth consecutive win. They've made 56.6 percent of their shots inside the arc, a top-five mark, and they have Poeltl (17.7 PPG, 8.9 RPG). As we stated earlier, he's a monster.

Coach K has a player that might be a top 5 pick in the draft. He has a stacked team coming back next year as well.

He has taken a team from 6 wins to a team that should reach the sweet 16 year in, year out.

Why would he take ANY disrespect from BYU? What need does he have for that drama? What value does K have in the game?

There is NONE. BYU brings NOTHING to Utah or Coach K. So, if they treat you like dirt, move on. Pretty simple stuff.

Then that's what he should say. But he didn't. He said that player safety was the reason. He only mentioned the lack of remorse in the context that it showed (in his mind) that BYU's behavior wouldn't change and therefore his players' safety was in danger.

He did say that. You choose to ignore that part:

Going along with this, and with what he has built.

If your goal is to make the sweet 16 every year and win the PAC-12, which are very reasonable goals for K, what value does playing a team that has punched your guys two of the last three times you've played them, do for you?

Remember Vranes and the blow he took from a CSU player? Imagine if that happened to Poeltl? That would destroy Utah's goals for this year.

Yeah, there is a risk that any team could hurt a Utah player. BUT, it happens again and again with BYU, you are not forced to play BYU, and playing BYU does nothing to help your program and the only thing it can potentially do is hurt your program.

So, if you had an option in your professional career that only had potential to hurt you, not help you, would you take it?

So, yes, player safety is the reason why he cancelled the game. Utah will beat BYU in most sports moving forward. The gap between P5 and mid-major is just too large.

If you have a team that wants to beat you but can't, there is some anger and frustration there. When players from that team have lashed out recently with nothing being done to correct that, then you start to worry about player safety.

If you don't get anything from playing that team and that team has shown they have intentions other than playing in the game, then you move on.

It's pretty simple stuff.

I didn't ignore that part. But somehow I'm missing where Coach K says that playing BYU brings no value to the U. I agree that that's what he FEELS, and that that's the true reason for cancelling the game... but he has never said that.

Why does he have to say that? If you have an ugly, weird family member do you tell them they are ugly, weird and no one likes them to their face? Makes no sense. Everyone knows BYU brings no value to Utah. There's no argument there.

Do you know that K told Rose the day after the game that he was cancelling the game? And Rose sat on that news for three weeks before running to the press?

What exactly has BYU done in this whole process to warrant Utah playing them?

Give me one example of BYU showing respect the last...10 years? Why would the University of Utah continue to play BYU? Nothing positive comes from that rivalry. So, you move on.

Coach K is chicken ****

Utah is going to be **** next year without Poetl.

Nope. Nice try though. Utah has a lot of talent coming in next year, including Johnson, who is red shirting this year. Utah will be tourney bound again next year.

You BYU fans keep dreaming that Utah will implode in the PAC-12. Not gonna happen.

Only four schools were ranked in football and basketball the last two years. Utah was one of those 4.

Lol. Coach K has gone from tryouts with the student body to the sweet sixteen.

You wish your coach was half as good. Then you'd be in the tourney this year.
I definitely wish my coach was as good as coach K.
His team just won the ncaa championship last year. I think he is the best coach of all time.

You think cy is a byu fan?

And he also lost to my coach K this year.

It's funny, but a lot of the blame for all this lies at Rose's feet. Had he had any control over his players, we'd still be playing.

Also, was talking to my FIL the other night. How is any BYU fan happy with Holmoe? Six years ago football and basketball were ranked and making national news.

Now? Silence.

If there is any AD that should be worried about his job...well, it ain't Hill. Hill has been fantastic as AD.

Going Indy and going to the WCC are killing BYU athletics. Utah fan doesn't need Hill or Larry K to do that. Holmoe is Cal-ing BYU just fine on his own.

Green is that fan that barks a ton when the utes are ranked #4. Then they go on a losing streak and you don't hear from him anymore.

Never posts when the bball team isn't doing so good but count on him to puff out that chest after some nice wins.

Talks about how Travis Wilson is one of the best qb's in the county 3 games into the season. Disappears when the ute offense does too.

Loves to talk about byu no matter what though

Lol

We'll have a good bunch back, Jayce Johnson as a red shirt freshman, and a new recruit class. Utah won't be ****, not even close.

Nope, we will have a goal of a sweet sixteen or better again. It's called being big time. I don't think BYU knows how that feels.

lol. So, because I'm not here everyday and don't have a 100 rep power...you bag on me? lol.

That's rich. Your 30,000 posts...real impressive.
Good point

Exactly

Also, I post on this thread, because it is TITLED:

Utah Legislature to Audit U OF U...

This thread is about Utah, Utah dropping BYU, and how BYU has become nothing but a drag to Utah's program. Pretty simple stuff.

I bet in your mind though, you stood over me and yelled, "Stay down bitch!" didn't you...even though you are losing and will probably miss the tourney.
