How to defend Curry....and win the NBA Championship!

Curry had an all-time poor performance setting the record for most missed three pointers in one game (13 misses) and a terrible 5 for 23 field goals overall. For those that say that Curry just had a bad game obviously have never had a 6 foot Australian breathing the same air as you for 48 minutes as you try to make shots from 23 feet and beyond. I haven’t either but I’ll just give Dellavedova the benefit of the doubt here because playing against him does not look easy.

Matthew Dellavedova made plenty of mistakes guarding Stephen Curry such as jumping too soon, or being out of position, however he makes it up with extreme effort. He also does his best to apply all the basic defensive principles you need for trying to shut down the 2015 MVP. Dellavedova played strictly face guard denial along with staying within one arm’s distance at all times. Dellavedova’s in your face defense creates a chaotic atmosphere and just becomes a major distraction for Curry all game.

Dellavedova is right near Curry on every play. He doesn’t play “help defense” because the Cavs strategy is to keep the ball out of Curry’s hands as much as possible. The Cavaliers took their chances with leaving other players open hoping that Curry’s teammates wouldn’t be as successful. Playing this way also disrupts the Warriors rhythm since Stephen Curry usually initiates plays for their offense. It’s hard to do that, if he can’t even get open to receive the ball!

While there is some technique to playing great defense, it has much more to do with effort. It takes a lot of hard work to play this intense for an entire game. (Ball denial!) You have to make it a goal to stop your opponent from getting the ball!

...now, if the Spurs can find 3 guys willing to do this on Curry during the playoffs, they just might win another Championship! I say 3 guys or at least 2, because if you can get a breather every now and then, you can still have enough energy to make a basket or two yourself!

We can laugh at CJ all we want but this strategy makes complete and utter sense. We don't have a guy on the team who's quick, athletic and smart enough to do this though imo. I mean, maybe Exum? Mack?

I could see Exum doing it.

Break something on him. Foul him hard enough to break a bone. Stick your foot under his foot as he's shooting a three. Take him out of the game. This is how you beat the Warriors in a series.

In other words, bringing Bruce Bowen out of retirement.

OP is right and he is only pointing out the obvious fact. Bust your *** on D and you are there. That's it. Basketball is a rhythm game and if you succeed at breaking the opponent's rhythm, then you will have a bigger chance of winning. That's why I started "Offense or Defense? " poll last year, because there really is a major importance on defense when teams like GSW and players like Curry and Thompson are dominating the league.

...no need to be dirty or illegal about it! Just rotate 2 or 3 guys denying him the ball! It can't be THAT difficult! You only have to do it for 24 seconds at a time! TWENTY FOUR lousy seconds!
