Curry had an all-time poor performance setting the record for most missed three pointers in one game (13 misses) and a terrible 5 for 23 field goals overall. For those that say that Curry just had a bad game obviously have never had a 6 foot Australian breathing the same air as you for 48 minutes as you try to make shots from 23 feet and beyond. I haven’t either but I’ll just give Dellavedova the benefit of the doubt here because playing against him does not look easy.
Matthew Dellavedova made plenty of mistakes guarding Stephen Curry such as jumping too soon, or being out of position, however he makes it up with extreme effort. He also does his best to apply all the basic defensive principles you need for trying to shut down the 2015 MVP. Dellavedova played strictly face guard denial along with staying within one arm’s distance at all times. Dellavedova’s in your face defense creates a chaotic atmosphere and just becomes a major distraction for Curry all game.
Dellavedova is right near Curry on every play. He doesn’t play “help defense” because the Cavs strategy is to keep the ball out of Curry’s hands as much as possible. The Cavaliers took their chances with leaving other players open hoping that Curry’s teammates wouldn’t be as successful. Playing this way also disrupts the Warriors rhythm since Stephen Curry usually initiates plays for their offense. It’s hard to do that, if he can’t even get open to receive the ball!
While there is some technique to playing great defense, it has much more to do with effort. It takes a lot of hard work to play this intense for an entire game. (Ball denial!) You have to make it a goal to stop your opponent from getting the ball!

...now, if the Spurs can find 3 guys willing to do this on Curry during the playoffs, they just might win another Championship! I say 3 guys or at least 2, because if you can get a breather every now and then, you can still have enough energy to make a basket or two yourself!
