If Dallas wins, there's a good chance the Jazz will miss the playoffs even if they go 3-1 and beat the Mavs. If Houston wins, Utah can go 3-1 and will be guaranteed a playoff spot as long as they beat Dallas.

As painful as it is, we need Houston to win. These young guys need to taste the playoffs. It would be better at full strength, but they need to do what it takes to get in. If their top competition falters a bit, so be it. Jazz need to take care of their business and let the rest sort itself out. Houston is making the playoffs. It only helps to have the Mavs stumble at the end here.

I simulated the rest of the season -- if Houston wins our odds to make the playoffs increase, based on 538 odds.

I think dallas winning helps achieve that goal more than Houston winning.

This is all true. Assuming Houston does end up winning every game after tonight, a Dallas win would help Utah only if Utah goes undefeated the rest of the way. Which is very possible. But if the Jazz drop another game, and the Rockets do win out, Houston losing tonight doesn't help us at all.

Like I said before, assuming Utah wins out, absolutely. If Utah drops a game, it doesn't help them at all (unless Houston drops another game, which, looking at their schedule, probably won't happen).
