Jazz head coach Quin Snyder has agreed to a "long-term" extension to stay in Utah, the team announced Friday.
Snyder, who just finished his second season at the helm of the Jazz, originally signed a three-year deal with a team option for a fourth season. But the Jazz apparently did not want to wait to lock up their coach beyond that.
"We have continued to take significant steps as a team under Quin's direction," Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey said in a news release. "His work ethic, basketball intelligence and ability to connect with and develop our players make him the ideal head coach of the Jazz."
The Jazz have gone 78-86 in two seasons under Snyder, narrowly missing the playoffs this year as the team battled a series of injuries to their top players. Jazz officials, however, believe their team is trending in the right direction with Snyder.
"With this contract extension, we are declaring our confidence in Coach Snyder's ability to continue to develop the Utah Jazz into a championship team," said Gail Miller, owner of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. "The Miller family recognizes the significant progress made under his leadership and we are excited about the direction we are headed."
