Following 2016 potential draftees

Here's the catch 22. We would have to likely give up our GS 1st and our OKC 1st to move up 4-5 spots to get him imo. Is that worth it? Is it worth losing picks in killer drafts to move up to get Murray?

I think that Murray is the kind of player that the NBA is going towards. He is a top 3 pick in the draft and getting him near 10 is worth giving something like that up.

It's not easy getting top 5 talent in any draft.

Admittedly, I didn't see him play once all year. I just watched some highlights. An insanely pure shooter. He'll probably suck balls on defense but he could be hidden well with Exum, Hayward, Favors and Gobert behind him imo.

I strongly agree about the direction of the league. I've said it a zilion times here. Hood, Hayward and Co. have to improve their shooting more than anything else this off-season. If they do that and we add shooters like Murray/Hield AND Qi/Maker later, we'd be on the right path to becoming not just a 50 win team but a 60 win team.

He played a major role on Team Canada LAST summer. He's got the cajones that you want for a young player. He would replace the production that you are getting off the bench with Burks.

I think he could be CJ McCollum type player for the Jazz but you'd be getting him off the bench with the likes of Lyles and one of Hood or Hayward.

I think he would certainly be worth multiple firsts even in a loaded upcoming draft. Time to pay the piper, if he's gettable (while keeping Exum, Hood, Hayward Favors, Rudy and Lyles) then do it. I think the Jazz have enough assets outside of those six players that some team would be interested.

I doubt any team takes our crappy future 1st round picks (those are both going to be in the late 20's most likely) for us to move up.

If the Kings at 8 or Raptors at 9 aren't crazy about anyone in particular, they may take #12, the OKC 1st (especially knowing Durant could leave), and a couple 2nds.

Yep. Neither team wants to develop talent for future success. Both of those teams are in win now mode. I think Alec (and to a lesser extent Withey) would be of interest to both of those teams.

Crap, I've now talked myself into this being realistic. It's not, he'll go top 5 and those teams would want a piece of the core plus multiple firsts to get him.

This is why I sometimes hate Jazzfanz. I end up talking myself into unrealistic situations.

Murray, Burks and Lyles off the bench is awful defensively. Something to think about. Personally, I'd love to have one of Favors, Gobert or Withey always on the floor for defensive purposes.

If he's still on the board at 9, does Toronto take Burks to be their 3rd guard in the rotation and the 12th pick? Is that giving up too much? I lean toward yes.

I'd do it. Generally speaking, I'd rather trade down than up in this draft, but Murray is one guy I'd be willing to trade up for if he slips.

Trade Burks, 12 and two 2nds to move up to 8. The Kings can maybe draft Deyonta Davis at 12 and then run out a team of Rondo, Burks, Gay, Davis, Cousins. That would be a long team that sounds intriguing on paper.

We draft Murray and call it a day.

I agree. You don't have 3 players playing off the bench. It's a 5 person team sport. If you got Murray then you'd probably need to give up Burks, so this is a line up that could work:

Exum
Murray
Hayward
Lyles
Favors

then

Mack
Murray
Hood
Lyles
Gobert

See, we can make this work.

A 3-wing lineup of Murray/Hood/Hayward would be killer: so much outside shooting and ability to create off the dribble.

I mean, I think Toronto needs a legit shooter (Derozan blows obvi) but if they could get Burks and someone like Deyonta Davis out of this draft, they'd have to love the upgrades and depth.

I love it and I think that it make sense for both teams. One of those seconds should be from this draft.

Yep, Biyambo is gone and Davis could be a less effective but more offensively skilled Biyombo.

Also, Burks shoots better than DDR from the 3 and they also like to slow it down and play iso ball. Burks would fit in perfectly with that.

That's a bit rudimentary.

I'd go...

Exum, Hood, Hayward, Favors, Gobert for first 6 minutes.

Sub out Favors at the 6:00 mark.

Exum, Hood, Hayward, Lyles, Gobert for the next 3 minutes.

Sub out Hood at the 3:00 mark.

Exum, Murray, Hayward, Lyles, Gobert.

Sub out Exum, Hayward, Gobert at end of 1st.

Play Mack, Murray, Ingles, Lyles, Withey til the 9:30 mark.

Sub Favors in for Withey at the 9:30 mark.

Mack, Murray, Ingles, Lyles, Favors

Sub out Ingles at the 7:00 mark for Hood.

Run with Mack, Murray, Hood, Lyles, Favors til the 5:00 mark.

Bring in starters for last 5:00 of half. Or something like that.

Exum, Hayward and Gobert would get 34 minutes per that way. Hood would get 32. Favors would get 31. Lyles would get 26 minutes. Murray would get 20 minutes. Mack would get 14 minutes. Ingles would get 10 minutes. Withey would get 5 minutes.

I could see the Jazz wanting to develop Murray in game and so I could see him taking most of Macks minutes unless he is really struggling. Murray is NOT a pure PG but he has a decent enough handle that he could play that position against bench units.

You're absolutely right, he'd struggle defensively.

You could probably run an Exum, Murray, Hayward, Lyles/Favors, Gobert/Withey lineup out there nicely. Exum, Hayward with either Gobert or Withey at the 5 is really solid defenisvely and should be able to mask a lot of his short comings.

Murray won't make it past 7 and even that I doubt... Unless there is a major injury in between now and the draft id say he's 95% likely to go top 6. Denver would be doing cartwheels if he fell to 7 and would ask for a random to trade the pick.
